I suggested to my wife that we could go see This is the End, because even though the trailers looked stupid, and critics said it was really good. She reminded me that Ted was just like that (and I walked out of that dreck from my own living room).
So, we saw Man of Steel. :D
I liked it. Sure, the plot wandered unforgivably, and the various philosophical ramblings don't go anywhere, and of course physics takes a holiday, but the central plot is tight, and Zod is fantastic as a villain who's motivation is simply doing his job - saving his people.
Random observation: the various requirements of Dept. of Defense backing are clearly in evidence. And apparently, getting the ever-living crud beat out of them for pretty much the entire movie is not a problem for them.

Yeah Zod was great. Good casting. Film was so so with a much stronger start than end.
The effects were probably the best I've seen though. Even Ironman, Avengers et al suffer from occasional cartooning (and don't get me started on After Earth's Babylon 5 style rubbish) but this was just rock should.
And Zods sub Commander was smoking.

Not sure what to expect from World War Z, out Friday here. I'm just finishing up the book, but it seems that there's not much of the book in the movie. They've got a large hill to climb with a $200M budget, so it'll be interesting to see how the movie is received. And I guess I don't quite get the zombies in this thing, every shot of them just has them rolling and tumbling over each other, very strange.

They also chatter their teeth. It's an OK film. Few action scenes and lots of dialogue.

The teaser for the LEGO Movie just came out: (

I'm torn because I like LEGOs and the it looks like they did a magnificent job with the CG on this... the stop-motion-esque style is great. However I can't help but feel the plot is going to be dumb and too kiddie-ish. Probably going to be a pass for theaters and watch later for me. What do you guys think?

Gotta agree, visually it's stunning (love that they made it look like real Legos instead of 3D renders ) but the plot looks just terrible - generic as hell

Legos?
I thought Lego was a brand name :P

Lego has been rubbish since about 2001. Shan't bother with this at all.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing makes it a must see. Clone High was brilliant, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was amazing, and 21 Jump Street was the funniest movie of 2012. LEGO is the perfect fit for how they build comedy (no pun intended).

Interesting take on it that almost works but just falls a bit flat.
You can see where it gets the skeleton from the book, and more so than you can tell from the trailer. There are lots of small bits that have been taken from the book and placed, err, appropriately.
It has a bunch of really nice sequences, especially the final section, but somehow it doesn't quite fit together and I think (though I'm still not sure) its because they had one guy see/do it all. If it had been split into different stories it would have worked better. Everyone did a good job, Pitt was solid as usual, but the sum is lesser than its parts.
