Wow, Renz, I thought I was reading a Kolya post at first.

ITT Brethren possibly misses the point of Pacific Rim.

It looks rubbish to me too but I know what the target audience is and I'm not really it.
I get the schlock, I get the bombass, and I still think it's meh. I was especially put off by the Glados voice in the trailer. Its not an "homage", its just lazy.
I really enjoyed Oblivion. Yeah it has its failings but the atmosphere evoked by the beautiful visuals and the fabulous soundtrack (plus the core/underlying message) worked really, really well for me. Seeing it at IMAX definitely helped.
I saw I'm So Excited the other day. Some good bits, some great bits, as usual everyone in it is awesome, but it was a bit, ahem, limp.

Oblivion. Very pretty. The first third was a good setup for a story. The rest of it was ... still pretty.
Edit: Sorry, I deleted my post (above SE's) to post after yours SubjEff, just to avoid the ninja. But since you edited your post to mention Oblivion in that time... Well anyway here it is heh.

I believe you'd call it a triple-ninja.

Fuck. Actually? I would look forward to that more than most summer blockhead fests. Bring it, Mr. F.
In all seriousness, I have started preferring TV shows to movies over the last couple of years. It's weird. Back in the day I was all about going to the theater, seeing the trailers, enjoying what was out and waiting impatiently for the next big blockbuster. Most of my time spent in front of the TV was usually spent watching movies I rented. The shows? There were a couple of great ones, but most of them didn't come anywhere near to comparing to a good movie.
Now I've flipped completely. Movies are mostly something I do when I want to be social. Every once in awhile I'll see a good one, but they haven't drawn me in like Breaking Bad. Games of Thrones. The Wire. The Shield (which I'm finally getting around to watching). Sons of Anarchy (which is starting to lose some steam, but still pretty decent). Even Doctor Who. Hell, I could go on. There's plenty of good shows I'm waiting for anxiously, and still plenty more that I haven't seen yet that may be just as good as those mentioned above.
I think we're in the true golden age of TV here. Thanks to DVDs and the internet, shows don't have to be self contained stand alone episodes. Now they're more like chapters in a much larger tale. They can take their time to tell their stories and develop their characters in ways that could never be done in movies. It's like comparing short stories to novels in a way. Sometimes you're in the mood for a nice read you can breeze through one night before bed. Sometimes you feel like hunkering down with a big ass book that takes you forever to get through. Recently, I've found myself preferring the latter to the former.

Nonono, if I had said that, I would have meant it.

Iron Man 3 seems to be dividing the vote. I enjoyed it and found it far better than part 2.
But it's nowhere near as good as Iron Man 1 and seeing as I'm the harshest marker I know, apart from you Scots, I'm a little baffled by your take.
I dunno, the plot was a bit of a mess but it stood head and shoulders above IM2. It could be that IM2 and the trailer for 3 appropriately downgraded my expectations, but overall I found Shane Black's take on the franchise to be the shot in the arm that it needed. Everyone looked like they were having fun and it was funny as hell, two big ticks in my book.
Plus I saw it in 3D on an IMAX screen roughly the size of the Moon.

I don't care what the point is (and I get it, it's GIANT FUCKING ROBOTS FIGHTING GIANT FUCKING ALIENS HUAHHGUAFYAFAJF), the movie looks SHIT.
Oblivion was very pretty but truly awful.
Supes looks like a potentially great origin story and then a bunch of shit blowing up, average at best.
Hearing very worrying things about ST. Apparently not enough lens flare and too much dramatic enunciation of "cold corpses".
Fast and Furious... haven't seen one yet, don't intend to.

I'd rate Iron Man 3 as my favourite of the three, although I can see why people prefer the first one. The first is all clean lines, while Iron Man 3 is shambolic. Crucially though, all those messy strands come together in the end, and I also found it the funniest while simultaneously having the most sense of danger.
I get more out of watching Tony Stark improvising bombs on the fly than Iron Man smacking a tank around.
