I did mention ST:ID, but totally forgot about Thor (of course I'm seeing that one) and hadn't yet heard anything about Riddick. Just saw the trailer for Riddick; another must-see for me (yep, after 'Pitch Black' I am afraid of the dark and thank God no more ridiculous Necromongers)! The Hobbit? How can anyone NOT want to see that!?

I'd much rather spend my money to go see 'After Earth' at the end of this month.
I can guarantee, backed up with hard cash, that Oblivion is better than After Earth. I'll still see After Earth but it's going to be fairly meh in comparison.

I kinda hope they both do alright even if they're not great, just 'coz they're both vaguely interesting premeses at least.

in the "sequels I'll go to no questions asked" category, there's ... Sin City, Wolverine,...
This low bar now set, a Guillermo Del Toro film is not expected to get over them. :nono:

I thought Iron Man 3 was better than IM2, but not quite as good as IM1. Still, third-movies have a bad reputation; it certainly could've been much, much worse. Kind of a pleasant surprise. Hard to believe that people are calling the twist a "twist" at all, it was so heavily telegraphed. Doesn't the person the main character dissed always comes back as the major villain?
I liked Oblivion, although I thought the ending was clumsy.
Not sure about After Earth.
Pacific Rim has my inner pedant up in arms for some reason. It just bugs me that these supposedly huge monsters and robots, now done in CGI so they could be done right, instead still act just like the guys in suits that inspired them. And the world around them does more or less the same thing. I don't know why this bothers me so much, it's not like Iron Man 3's adversaries made biological sense.
Looking forward to Thor 2. Hope it's as earnestly silly as the first. I adored that movie. "I need a horse!"
They're saying the new Superman is good, but I'm still worried. I guess we'll see.
First I've heard of the new Riddick.

I refuse to watch movies, let alone lower myself to watch them in the theatre ... Soon, we shall see the fruits of their labors. In less than a month, in fact. On May 26th, we shall witness a true display of Art. Yes. Art. With a capital A. For on that day...
Operation Hot Mother begins again.
YESSSSSSS... I'm glad I'm not the only epster (an e-Hipster, becasuse yes we are so cool we need our own term) looking forward to restart of one of the best tv shows ever.

In all seriousness, I have started preferring TV shows to movies over the last couple of years ... Movies are mostly something I do when I want to be social. Every once in awhile I'll see a good one, but they haven't drawn me ... I think we're in the true golden age of TV here. Thanks to DVDs and the internet, shows don't have to be self contained stand alone episodes ...
That sounds EXACTLY like me. Sure there's still good movies I'll see once in a while that genuinely grab me (last one was probably Looper), but most of the time I just feel I can't be bothered to sit through ~2 hours of what too often turns to be a predictable and formulaic plot.
A 20min TV show, on the other hand, is much easier to get in and out of, and a perfect length to accompany a meal. And the longer/serious ones have practically mastered the art of suspense and cliffhangers that keeps you going "just one more episode..."

But it's nowhere near as good as Iron Man 1 and seeing as I'm the harshest marker I know, apart from you Scots, I'm a little baffled by your take.
Pffft, I'm such a grumpy prick that I was underwhelmed with even the first Iron Man. Fun characters and sparkling interplay wasted on a dull, thin comic book story with workmanlike action sequences. After seeing it I wasn't awaiting the inevitable avalanche of sequels but harboring a secret hope that Downey, Paltrow and Favreau would run off and make a snappy, screwy, Hawksian romantic comedy. God knows we could do with one of those these days.
Overall, I'm not really excited about
any of the summer blockbusters this year. I guess I'm getting too old for this shit but so far all the trailers have looked pretty much the same to me: portentous opening that build and builds only to explode in the last 30 seconds into a clusterfuck of CGI from about 8 different action sequences which suggests that any intrigue will be squandered and any attempts at gravitas will fall flat because they are not where the focus is. From what I've heard from friends and family, that sums up
Oblivion's problems and
Star Trek,
After Earth,
Elysium,
TooManyComicBookMovies don't look much better. To be fair,
Elysium does look to be the best of the bunch but I was disappointed by
District 9's descent into action tedium and I can't help but feel now that Blomkamp has a hell of a lot more money to play with, it's only going to be worse in
Elysium.
Pacific Rim is getting a pass from me currently because at least it has the decency to look as dumb as it actually is.
As for what I am looking forward too, apart from Alfonso Cuarón's
Gravity, I have no idea. Which isn't to say there is nothing of note coming out this year just that even though I watch a lot of art/foreign/indie/whateveryoucallnonblockbustermainstreamfilms I'm not a huge follower on what is happening. For anyone who does what's the word? What's the word on the new Coen film? Any other name directors releasing stuff this year?
