The tensest part of any game... - by sparkle_motion

Well since I was relaplaying the whole game I went for hard, so I went into this 'new' level at that difficulty.
And yes, it was that main room which freaked me out.... though I think I got through the whole level only killing one zombie. :) Serious, for some reason I hoarde holy water and fire arrows instead of using them, which is stupid considering they don't appear in the next level. :)

It's brother Murus.
What?! I consider Brotha M to be a relief! I mean, you're wading through swarms of undead, then the eye locks the front door to your way out, and just when you find an escape, 'oh snap!' another ghost!
Then he starts talking to you like the PA guy in the queue line for Star Tours. Nice to see something not bent on the idealism that your innards should be your outards.
Never could finish this one. Tried it on expert...
...not my idea of courage. More like, suicide.
Would be pretty tight if Murus could shoot hammers out of his fingers when he sees undead, but nooooo, Garett has to do it.

Yes, I mean in the midst of the game Murus is a relief, someone nice talking to you... yet I just wanted to get out of there are soon as is humanly possible. Has anyone tried the wedging the doors open trick, or stacking and climbing majoobie to pass the level without Murus?

I did try the skull-wedge-the-doors-open trick... it worked in Thief: The Dark Project but since I patched that and then bought Thief: Gold.. it no longer works for me. The doors just push the skull aside. I think I recall someone mentioning you can stack crates and climb a certain wall or something, though I love the level so I keep doing it normally :D.
I used to hoarde fire arrows and mines (mines I still do) and gas arrows etc. Then I realized, wait, why am I doing this? I never really use mines, just when I have nothing else (I'm one of these people who doesn't feel satisfied until the whole LEVEL is clear of enemies).
Come to think of it also, I recall reading somewhere that ordinary Hammerites can blow zombies apart with their hammers... is that true?

The first time I played through Return to the Cathedral, after getting rid of Brother Murus, and discovering that he ordered me to go back to that place again, something snapped in me. When a haunt discovered me in the stairwell, I ran in terror into the sunburst device room, locked the door and sat cowering in the corner like a little boy for something around ten minutes.
And the cutscene after completing the mission didn't help things. Not one bit.
(I shut off the PC with a comment like "Now that can't be true. It is enough." :tsktsk: )
(And of course, "back then" I didn't even know haunts could be killed with normal weapons. I always assumed they shared standard zombie resistances. And that didn't help things either.)
Ahh, nothing like a bit of trauma to make my day.
BTW, welcome to the boards, sparkle_motion!

Yes, quite true. Usually happens when a Hammerite jumps and smashes with his hammer in an overhead swing.

Haha so all we need is a hammer!?
The haunts never seem destroyable to me, merely because of how scary they are. So for some reason I never balckjack them which is plain stupid.
So BoldEnglishman did you clear the level of all baddies?

Yeah I know that feeling, it's such a relief when the mission complete film comes up ^_^
