The tensest part of any game... - by sparkle_motion

Screw up Brother Murus.
Avoid him.
Get his rosary.
Get his candle.
Get the praybook.
Make a Holy Symbol, bless it.
Get over the wall with Brother Martello on your shoulder!

I know, It's in Russian, but on the screenies you'll see everything your need. The Trick is to find a spot on the wall that triggers "Get Out" task.

Hahahah that is excellent! Are these conciously made possible by the game creators or not? I wish there was an english version of that page!

I did that short-cut route - avoiding Brother Murus- once too.
I don't think they left those routes intentionally. That's why e.g. in Thief Gold you cannot use the "bar-the-front-doors-with-a-skull-trick" anymore which formerly let you circumvent Brother Murus also.
I don't know what it is about that mission that makes all of us groan. Doing the chores isn't that much different than most other objectives.
I remember also thinking that all the undead where near unstoppable save for holy water and flashbombs. But then again, I also assumed that Garrett was a bad fighter and wouldn't stand a chance against any AI in a fight (except the little spiders)... So I used to be pretty anxious whenever some enemy found me and attacked me. Nowadays I sometimes enjoy fighting with the AI... but mostly I sneak...
When I first played that mission I was shaking because I had to go "there" again. All the undead made me wish I could just skip that level.
And then standing in the cloister being chased by the haunts and some zombies... suffice to say, it was one hell of an experience.
It was worse than with the Cradle in TDS. Only level to come near that state of dread was Sabotage in Thief 2 albeit for a wholly different reason.
When I play it today it doesn't bother me too much anymore - the nostalgia factor is way too high for Murus and his shopping list to impress me...

Thats very true, its not really the point. I mean, you may as well just do ctrl+alt+delete+end until you reach the endgame. :)

I don't really understand what you're saying, sparkle...
Some people here- iincluding you- voiced their dislike of that mission or of having to do those errands, and I just replied to that.
;-)
To get back on topic:
the tensest part is whenever you feel totally immersed and Garrett needs to do something dangerous. Or when you don't know what to expect in a mission. Or you don't know what your enemies can or may do.
For me, ToB was almost as tense as RTC because I didn't know what to expect.
I didn't know Haunts could be backstabbed so I spent some time running away, in ToB I didn't know the Eye-Flowers and the Wi-o-wisp were harmless so I spent ages skulking in the shadows wondering how to get past them.
Tense is always when you forget that "it's just a game" and then nearly die of a heart attack because your cat decides to jump on your desk.

Yes sparkle motion, I did kill all enemies in the level :D. In fact I actually get a little annoyed if I can't, especially in an undead level 'cos then (especially with zombies) I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that something(s) in the level cannot be disposed of entirely, and I'm never safe!
In fact I'm playing through T2X: SotMA at the moment, and I reached the hospital level (for anyone that has played it) and damn I cannot get past the floating heads (this could be a spoiler, or it could interest you in the game ;) ). Haunts look kill-able... but a floating head with no eyes is just plain f**** creepy, especially when paired with the usual Haunt whispering. I saved the first time I saw it, tried to get past it... it sped towards me and I thought f*** that and escaped the game :D. Will have to brave it at some point...

going back through TDP after playing TDS - the undead are still more effective. I swear, if the zombies 'n haunts in TDP/TMA were more like the ones in TDS, the Cathedral wouldn't have a leg to stand on - you'd be in and out and done
