When i first started playing thief and seen that it was developed by Looking Glass Studios i thought that a looking glass was a mirror because the irish word for mirror translates to looking glass and ive been brought up (mind you not often) hearing it in relation to a mirror. Then i studied the small picture of a face with a telescope attached to it and realised it means something different. What do you guys take that phrase to mean?

It's a mirror.
The guy who designed the logo didn't really think too hard about it, and by the time it was done and accepted and the deal sealed, it was too late!
Yes, they goofed.
But it's a better logo than their old yellow glassy G, isn't it? :D

More specifically, the artist confused "looking glass" with "spyglass". At least, (

Perhaps one is scrutinizing one's own reflection, from afar, thus gaining a unique perspective and an appreciation for details overlooked. A risky view of things, but one with depth and stylish distortions. Cool heat ripples.
And I'm glad DeargDoom didn't ask if the logo was a parrot or a whale or "what is it?"

Actually, at Looking Glass we always used to joke that it looked like a parrot. And, to be honest, there was never any great love for the logo, for the simple fact that it's just plain wrong. A telescope is a "spy glass" -- a "looking glass" is a mirror (as in Alice in Wonderland). D'oh!

Seems kind of amazing that you would pay an artist to do your logo, but in the end you wouldn't even notice that it was completely wrong before approving it. :wot:
