Thief Gold has not aged well. The main problem that I've been noticing: Lego Building Blocks design. For example, I have trouble believing that a rich nobleman like Lord Bafford lives in a brown square with holes in it. And the buildings outside his estate all have the same doors and textures. Having a whole stretch of wall look the same in patches (remember the patchy sky texture in Unreal?) is not really immersive.
In nine/eight years (TDP graphics = TG graphics) the graphics have lost a lot of luster. Even then it was painful that lip synching hadn't been invented. Also, in the Keeper Training mission, viewed from the right angle, you could see that the sky was a box.
Other games have also improved upon the Thief Series, namely: Deus Ex, Splinter Cell, and Chaos Theory (shall we forget Pandora Tomorrow and Double Agent?), and Invisible War.
MISSIONS FINISHED
A Keeper's Training
Lord Bafford's Manor
More updates coming soon.
Thief Gold is still on my top ten list, because it invented the FPSneaker (Metal Gear what? Shhh!). Thief 2 is higher on said list.
Long live Thief!

So uhm, what exactly is it that you're doing? This doesn't really tell us much. Are you remaking the missions, are you reviewing them? What exactly are you doing to them? Samples? Website?
I have to agree with Zylon. Invisible War? GAH.
Garret_729 on 17/2/2007 at 03:55
Remaking them? Oh GOD no...I suck at DromEd...
These are more of mini-reviews or short takes. Basically, comments about each mission and my current opinion of it.
Invisible War is the only game where you can take any side you want, and do whatever you want. That's why it's notable, but not for much else (can anyone say 'xbox?')

But Invisible War had the problem of making those choices plainly meaningless (I concied it wouldn't have been easy to do, but some consequences would have been nice. Plus everyone and his dog in the future seems to ask complete strangers to go and kill someone)
And Deus Ex did not do anything that Thief did better than Thief. It did a lot of other stuff as well, but the point remains.

Plus, cities in the far future seem to consist of about 3 enclosed buildings.
It's ok to have a total world population of about 50 people in a game like Zelda, because it's clearly not trying to be realistic.

Before you get flamed by some of our more excitable members (yes you know who you are) What your doing has essentially been done many many times already.
I commend you on your enthusiasm though, its nice to see the orginals still being played.
have fun

You made it sound like you were remaking them.
Some people whine just to be controversial. Some people whine and then aim to do something about it. Some just whine to whine.

Thief Gold has not aged well.
This statement is incorrect. To not age well means that it deteriorates faster than it should, that the effects of time have had an unexpectedly massive negative effect on something. This is in direct contrast to aging well, which means that it has either survived the passage of time undamaged, or has actually improved with age.
In the context of a game it is irrelevant. Thief Gold does not age - it's exactly the same as it was when it was released. Maybe you should have said "my impressions of a classic gave have not aged well" ... that seems to be the case. Thus the problem is with yourself, not the game.
Feel free to post 'reviews' of all the missions whining about what you think was done awfully from the perspective of current game design (graphic) standards, for a game released nearly a decade ago. I think the very fact that one would want to compare Thief Gold to current games and point out the differences is proof of the game's importance.

Good grief Digi, it's perfectly common to refer to how well a game has aged. Don't pretend the metaphor doesn't exist.

Being common doesn't make something correct. ;)
