I'm playing Thief Gold now too, as a matter of fact. I'm also playing Rainbow Six Vegas at the same time. There is almost a 10 year difference there. Yet I don't feel I'm playing "an old game". Sure it's a bit blocky and squarish. But it's got a lot of things new games do not. Namely, atmosphere. Thief is a unique game. I don't think it will ever age. As long as my computer will run it, I'll play it. I'm playing now on a widescreen monitor (pillarboxed), with AA/AF enforced in full via the nVidia control panel, and with the latest official drivers for my 6800U card, the game works flawlessly and looks better than ever. I'm also using the fixed EXE file that makes the game run with newer nVidia drivers, as well as the texture pack. The only trouble is that I have to alt-tab to set affinity to one CPU but that's a minor issue. All the videos play as well, so I'm good until I upgrade my PC in 6-12 months. Then we'll see. But I think I'll be playing Thief for years to come.

MISSIONS FINISHED
A Keeper's Training
Lord Bafford's Manor
More updates coming soon.
Cool. Will you make them available on the net, or are you just doing it for your own pleasure, and just making us know about it?

I had an issue as well where the game would freeze when having a dual core processor. Check out this link for a permanent fix. It works!

You know, Thief and Splinter Cell are really 2 different classes of stealth.
I've played all the SC games and I've enjoyed them, but I'd not play any of them a 2nd time, and there in lies the difference: It's a simplified imitation of the Thief formula. The gameplay of SC is closer to standard FPS than Stealth, and it does not emphasize exploration. It's the corridor shooter of the stealth genre.
Now, for Assassin's Creed I'm hoping that there's some kind of actual bonus to free-roaming.

Invisible War is the only game where you can take any side you want, and do whatever you want.
Yes, you can do whatever you want without any significant consequence:
Quote:
« What? You did not kill that guy in the Arcology like I ordered you to? Now I have to kill you. »
*sends two (!) assassins*
*player easily disposes of assassins*
« What? You killed my assassins? OK, this time I will allow you to live on and to continue to do jobs for us. But next time you better behave! »

Au contraire, it is my pinion Thief (maybe not Gold, heh :laff:) has aged remarkably well. What other games from the same time period are also played regularly, and have new missions designed for them? Very few, I'd say. Maybe Unreal (a completely different game, though). Also, a few of the features are still top notch... like the sound design, the level structure and the art directon.
(But then I am also sure this same debate has been hashed out a few times here already...)

Well, I love Thief and think is has aged extremely well.
But OTOH, I hope the OP comes back and keeps this going. I dont mind reading some negs about the series - won't affect my love for it and it's an uncommon perspective around here and thus somewhat "refreshing" in an odd sort of way.
Cheers,
Martek
