I knew it was out there and I'd heard (relatively) good things about out. I've just never seen it advertised here and must have missed it at the cinema.
Edit: it's out here in December. I'll be going to see it.

Oh my fucking GOD. I decided to rewatch Rec and when I went to "acquire" it I read there was a part two, so I got that too. This far scarier than the first one, so far anyway.
Edit: I must have jinxed it by saying "so far". Not five minutes later, scene. I think I shat myself. Oh mother f.

I wonder if I should get Starr to watch the first one first or if I should drag her to the prequel and then rent the Carpenter classic.
I would say prequel and then the 82 movie since they lead onto each other perfectly despite the huge technology downgrade (in the 82 one). Though I sat my gf down at the movies to watch the prequel before sitting her down to watch the 82 one and she preferred the prequel, which to me was blasphemy.
I would go as far as saying that this is one of the rare cases of a good prequel being done. Usually their just plain stupid and should never have been made, and don't have the same feel as the originals. In this case though, the feel is retained imo.

Don't be ridiculous. 80s version first of course. What madness is this? If you see the new one first you'll know what's going to happen.
You're supposed to see the new one knowing what happened in the 80s one. No wonder you gf preferred the new one - it's not as simple as chronological order.
Christ, the fact you don't get this makes me seriously doubt your judgment on the whole thing.

I was about to write a full-on response to what you said until I realized that I was catching myself agreeing with you toward the end. ;-) You are correct, watching the 82 film first is the best way to go about seeing the two films.

Subjective Effect: I get your point in that not knowing about the dog in the 82 movie is half the fun (in not knowing) as at the start you wonder why the hell the 2 guys are shooting at it, and yelling like crazy. I was speaking purely from a chronological stand point.
Having my gf watch them in the order she did wasn't planned. We just happened to pass the cinema and noticed the prequel was on, and after she wanted to see the 82 one.

Yeah this is deffo an example of watch them in the order they were released. That includes The Thing From Another World.

Saw this opening night here in the states. Had to see it since I am a big fan of the 82 version.
It wasn't bad but it lacked the paranoia that was built up in JC's film as well as the gruesome effects built by Rob Bottin. Lot of dots that got connected that leads right up to the beginning of JC's film. Will probably see this again on DVD.
Check out the film's website and play the free short game. It's not bad but short.

I finally watched it last night. Not scary, but it was fun to watch. Also, so -thats- where they got the spider/head things for Doom 3....
