The ultimate scare. . . - by Lady Taffer

I'm not talking about music, though, I'm talking about sounds. And only some sounds in this case. I think the random footstep noise and such that Poison Ivy mentioned would work, but maybe if there weren't any other ambient noises. . like if it was completely quiet. . then you hear the door banging, the footsteps. . the lights flickering, etc.
(plus, I don't get an emotional response from most horror movies with or without the sound) :cheeky:

Defenitely the sound of that hatch opening when you enter the Outer Cradle. I just didn't want to play on from that part. It's like "The Point of No Return"
And second: The eerie evil screeches of those "puppets" patrolling -_- *trauma*

Well aren't you brave. My point still stands, regardless of the fact that you didn't even read it. It becomes very murky when you try to sort out all noises into sound and music in a situation like this, so it's often best often to just treat it as a soundscape, with both sound effects and ambient music strokes on a larger canvas.
There is the occasional patter of phantom footsteps in this level anyway. Once again I point out that you really can't do this sort of thing much before the player will get bored of it. Think the boy who cried wolf. Most people would be pretty damn over hearing random noises before even seeing a puppet.
Looking at the amound of research and so forth that went into this level I sincerely doubt that anyone here could improve on the cradle.

. . .Seriously? I've always been able to distinguish perfectly between sounds and music. :p
We may have differing ideas on what constitues "sound" and "music" though.

Footsteps, knocking and Lauryl.
Afterthat, it only went downhill as I found the inner cradle part incredibly tedious and forced.
Yes I find this mission really overrated

Sounds like someone trying to cover up for having screamed themselves hoarse in the White Ward. :)
Just kidding... Well, everyone has the right to their own opinion. You could give us a more detailed account of why you think the mission is overrated, though.

What the heck is ?King No One? doing? Standing in the treatment rooms? It looks like he's digging through the pile of debris. Or is it the clockworking person?

The thing that scared me about the Cradle was the Outer Cradle. The way they managed to create a scary atmosphere with only lights, sound and text to work with. Having worked out that there were no monsters there, I ran through to the Inner Cradle, forgetting that Whitehall was where the bad people were. I actually ran out of my room and hid by the stairs when I quickly span 'round one of the corridor corners to find myself face to face with a Puppet.

That. Totally. Sucks. :p
I actually can remember something else...it was actually a bit funny. I saw the first puppet in the Observatory room, and I thought it didn't see me, but it stood op, ran up to me, and I was scared half to death. Then I started shooting him with water arrows. After I wasted 10, I suddenly saw they were water arrows. So I threw one flashbomb, and the puppet went down.
P.S. When I first read about "Puppets", I totally imagined "Chucky"-like puppets that had once belonged to the children from the orphanage, and their bodies were now took over by the evil spirits of the patients...dear Woodsie Lord...now thát would have scared me a lot!

What actually scared me the most about the Cradle was a certain attribute of the puppets, being that
their bodies stay there after they're "dead", yet you can't pick them up. You know a zombie is gone for good because it dissolves into dust. You know a Haunt is gone for good because you can pick up its body afterwards. But the puppets just lie where they fell. It's like you have no way of telling whether it's going to rise up again. I made the mistake, the first time through, of getting in a huge fight with three puppets in front of the treatment room. Shocking enough for me. But their bodies stayed there, and I assumed they were dead. Later on my way back into the room I stepped over them. They're dead, right? All three jumped back up in my face.
