Announcement with
nothing to show = doubt and derision
Announcement with
something to show = admiration and encouragement
And this much I have to agree with. Especially when the announcement has been posted repeatedly.

What we're seeing here is a sterling example of the former. The annoucement of, for example, SS2 Rebirth, was met with the latter. That's just how these things work. Human nature. Deal with it.
Why should Kingers value your opinion then, since you've created nothing of value yourself in this field to prove that your judgement is worth the internet space it's flagrantly vomited upon?
Derision of another's efforts having attempted something of value yourself = authority.
Derision of another's efforts having attempted nothing yourself = complainer.
This isn't human nature, it's just the nature of internet forums, where some smug patrons try their best to look big behind an anonymous mask.
Kingers is obviously not just announcing this campaign for attention or he wouldn't have bothered creating a website, forum and assembling a team. It's really quite simple.

Here's an idea. Everyone show a little compassion and restraint. What is the point in taking the piss out of someone for something so trivial? Better yet, volunteer if you want to see some better results. Up until a week or so ago, Kingers was running a one man show. I think he's done a pretty good job trying to keep the damn thing afloat by himself. If you want instant gratification, go masturbate. I expected better from the Thief community.
Fair enough. But I'm sure you and Renz will remember The Dark Mod getting a fair roasting from mincing around Thief Gen like it owned the place. Filling teh fora up with Dark Mod self publicity just resulted in a fairly broad section of the thief fandom adopting a fuck off dark mod posture - which is silly, because Dark Mod is pretty cool when you think about it.
Sorry Kingers, Kick in the teeth not intended. Genuinely wishing the project well, and looking forward to hearing plenty more about it. Trust me though; many threads != happy thief fans. But you probably know that by now.

You're right, I really ought to try my hand at creating something for the community one of these days.

DARKMOD: IT'S FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! :thumb:
And Mac, I'm not exactly defending ZB's attitude here, but I think he is (or was) fairly active in the System Shock 2 editing scene. So he has done something of merit.
Edit: notice the clever placement of sig action above.

I hope this project does do well. I sort of get the impression at this point that this might even be under consideration as the flagship for the Dark Mod. But please don't keep posting the same thing over and over just because people aren't taking the thread seriously.
A very simple analogy for this situation. You see a short trailer for a movie that looks good. When you are waiting in the lobby to see it, you don't just stand there and stare dumbly at the movie poster do you? You chat about all sorts of stuff while you wait.
While it may seem negative, and derailing, actually the fact that people stick around in your thread (making fun or not) means they have some sort of interest in seeing where it goes, or they would just ignore it, and let it slide away into the forum archives.

even though DromEd pushes us to the brink of madness. I actually had a dream about placing AI patrol routes last night. :erg:
I hear that! When I was messing with frobbable/lightable/extinguishable candles, I had dreams that my house caught fire from a candle, and Dromed wouldn't let me put it out or throw it out of the house.

Goodness me I never expected to start a flame war over this. Nor did I expect to see so many give support and so many derail us simply for creating a new thread!
Let me try to explain, the previous thread had become mostly jokes and zombie pictures (which was all well and good:laff: ) but it was supposed to be a serious thread for the project and because of its content that was no longer clear.
As a result I modified the main post to indicate to people interested that we had created a new thread in which they should go to which was more focused on topic than the previous one.
Sadly this thread has suffered the same fate because of different actions. It is not my intention to get people upset, believe me I am a pretty easy going guy and would like to apologise to anyone who feels that have been taffed upon.
On a slightly off topic question / poll. How many would prefer to see this project developed for TDS rather than TDM. Also which do you think it would be easier to recruit mappers for?

I like DS but I can only play it on a friend's computer :( So if it was made for DS I wouldn't be able to play it but a few hours a week.

TDM, as it is something fresh.

TDM, as I bought Doom 3 for that purpose.
