The sad thing is, like Black Cat and their Nightblade mod, by the time this comes out most people will have forgotten about it. Whilst the graphics look alright now, you're seriously limiting your audience if something isn't released. Look how Thievery turned out. Great mod, two or three players.
Why don't you put a beta out asap, if people enjoy it, when the final release comes out they will think along the lines of; "wow, I remember that, wonder what the final is like."
I don't mean to be disrespectful but I think the facts need pointing out.

Yeah, I know, the project is slow in the moment, very slow. We have decided against using a Kingers-esque storyline at all, which means we are developing a completely new, improved thing with a new setting, not being "UC" at all. At the moment, it looks like it will be a wholly new project.
We (being Nemerov and myself) will keep absolutely silent about it until we have set it up with an elaborated and completely new story and something more stalwart in our hands. (Of course, it will be undead-related in a way! ;) )
We'll be back when we have some serious things to show, so that we don't suffer the same fate as the old UC. It could take a while, though.
;)

2 or 3 players on Thievery? You are sorely mistaken. It's old now but even last year I would always find many people online.
Though BCG have, imo, made a mistake with not updating the Nightblade page for so long. I know work is still going on but that's only because one of the TDM members also does some NB work. To the everyone else it looks like the project has petered out (unless you are BCG forum member and you've read the relevant threads).

Are you talking about UC or the Dark Mod?
I seriously doubt that lack of interest will be a problem for the Dark Mod, even if it is a long time until release.

Yeah, but we should all know by now that being mistaken is what ToolFan does.

TDM should not be THAT long to release by now. :ebil:
I guess I should take a look at the site to see what news are up there.

I read that TDM will be another two years away, but will there be a non-final build released earlier? Is it possible to make it so that the final build would install itself without screwing up what maps people had worked on with the non-final?
I really think releasing a public beta of the campaign soon would be a very big mistake. Toolfan is mistaken. T2X took five years to make, and look how big it was. CoSaS has taken fifty years to make, but look how many people are amazed by the new screens. The bottom line? Things take time. Just lay low, and if people ask just tell them "It will be ready when it's ready".

meh, 2 years is a random, conservative or optimistic estimate depending on how you look at it.
Guess what - we don't know the future!
When it's done is about as accurate as anyone can get. Or perhaps "When it's basically done" is better.
We are perhaps 9 months, perhaps a year, perhaps 18 months away from any sort of public beta stage. We already have "internal" beta-mappers testing and expanding features and content in their own maps.
And there's no guarantee that maps made on that wouldn't be in some way broken by the final release, but the chances are they'd require very little alteration as we wouldn't release with many features missing or incomplete.
You can define "final release" however you like. Obviously some people will continue to tweak and add content and code to the community and the project. I'd consider final release the release at which we also release the source code, and "let it out" into the community, as it were. But bear in mind that part of the project may well now include modifying GtkRadiant to produce a "proprietary" editor specifically for and tuned to Dark Mod map design, which is a whole project in itself, really.

Did you change any of the elementary things in D3, such as the player size?

We're currently not working on a campaign. All work being done is for the toolset.
As for a public beta...only when it it is at a state where it is usable. This depends upon many factors, primarily how much work we can do in the next year. I'm currently scouring the world for a programmer to take on the very major role of helping us create a customized version of GTKRadiant to use with Dark Mod. Using D3Radiant for building levels will work well enough, but it's not truly ideal.
I had hoped to find some programmers within the community, who were familiar with Dromed and T3Ed to do the job, but there is currently no interest...something I find rather puzzling since this is an opportunity to create a kick ass editing suite for Thief style fan missions. So, I'm looking outside the community. Started right in my own city, and will hopefully find someone here so I can work with them in person. If we want to have a customized GTKRadiant editor finished in time for release with Dark Mod in two years, we really need to start work on it now.
