Did you change any of the elementary things in D3, such as the player size?
no, for pretty much this reason. And despite the fact that the D3 camera is located approximately at the Doom marine's neck. You would be able to play, albeit with no fine tuning, the original Doom 3 campaign as a Thief.

Started right in my own city, and will hopefully find someone here so I can work with them in person. If we want to have a customized GTKRadiant editor finished in time for release with Dark Mod in two years, we really need to start work on it now.
Two years?!?!?!?!!?

While I hope as well that the release is not
that far away, it is actually not a downside, though. If you are planning to create a detailed campaign with TDM, you need many months to accomplish it - and you can already finish a lot of the tasks without the actual toolset (such as textures, briefings, cutscenes, readables and even maps).
That's what I do at the moment.

Yes, two years. What's so shocking? :laff: Have you ever worked on a total conversion mod before, geez, these things take time you know. we're essentially rebuilding half of the doom 3 systems from the ground up. Vanilla doom 3 has nothing that even compares to Thief style Sound Prop and AI. Modders usually have jobs outside of their mods, they're not a paid team working 8 to 10 hour days. If we were, we would likely have the toolset finished by now.

Sorry to disappoint, but it most likely will be. That's what you have the alpha release for though, so you can start planning out the geometry of your levels. If your team works hard, you can probably find yourself releasing your campaign within 6 months to a year after the toolset is officially released...maybe sooner.

OHOHO! I could hear the sharp slap of Reality from all the way over here!
Level building is easy beans -- with a complete and working toolset, you can crank out a good level in a matter of a couple of weeks even if you want custom textures, models, and sounds.
TC Modding, not so much the easy beans.

AFAIK yes.

Personally, I am glad to hear that these guys are gonna see the project through! Because it ensures that the passion I have for one of my favorite games is still alive and shared by others. I would hate to see the Thief franchise fade into obscurity.
Thank you, New Horizon and the Dark Mod team for carrying on a legacy that is always in danger of falling off the map.

I wouldn't worry about the D3 engine looking obsolete in a year or two either. Some commercial games using the D3 engine have just started development, and the dev cycle can be ~2 years for commercial games. If the D3 engine is hopeless by then, then someone has convinced investors to waste millions of dollars on development. :)
Also as many people have stated, the engine is well-optimized and the limits of the engine should scale with increasing hardware for a while yet to come.

Besides, people talking about obsolescence in the engine are missing the point. There are not going to be any more Thief games, so The Dark Mod will still be the best looking Thief-like game even if there are more modern FPS games available at the time of release.

Talking about TDM becoming obsolote and outdated seems kind of ridicoulous to me. After all this very forum is dedicated to a game where two out of three installements are hopelessly outdated since several years already. Thinking that TDM would be outdated within two years, even though it uses quite a modern and up to date engine would actually mean that the Thief community would have died down by then.
