Let me try to explain, the previous thread had become mostly jokes and zombie pictures (which was all well and good:laff: ) but it was supposed to be a serious thread for the project and because of its content that was no longer clear.
Kingers: Just cuz the thread got derailed didn't mean everyone lost interest or forgot what the original topic was. kamyk had a good analogy. All you have to do is keep going back to that thread & post updates (& expect the thread to continue to derail between your updates).

Sadly this thread has suffered the same fate because of different actions. Not because of different actions, dear. It's because the same members that read your last thread on this subject are reading this one as well, and some of them are just crabasses. Probably a result of what I fondly refer to as DSB, or Dreaded Sperm Buildup. :cheeky: Some of them are just playful. (I'd rather not see the Thief forums go the way of ComChat, though, since these forums are refuge for a lot of us.)
Don't take it to heart.

How many would prefer to see this project developed for TDS rather than TDM. Also which do you think it would be easier to recruit mappers for?
You haven't given enough time for your project to recruit mappers. If you jump engines, that's not really going to help.

I'd rather see something for TDM (coming from someone who mainly works with TDS) because it's easier to get custom content into D3. In order to get content into TDS you need 3ds max 5.1. Not 3ds max 4.5, 6, 7, or 8 because the plugins for TDS are only 5.1. This software is hard to find :p
On the Doom 3 side you can use just about any modeling program or conversion tool to get content into D3. TDM will incorporate all the classic thief elements (rope arrows, swimmable water, etc.) so there's no limitations found in TDS.

Howsabout it fellas?
You see, I haven't burst in claiming I'm going to spearhead the next Communist revolution in a small South American state; I'm playing it cool, almost underplaying it. A thin veneer of confident throwaway frippery conceals a more serious idea underneath.

Just would need some coding, and a lot of mapping. I'm thinking multiplayer mostly, but singleplayer would need an awful lot more coding, particularly AI-wise.
I'm realistic, and my ambitions are, at this stage at least, minor and restrained. Grounded in pragmatism.

so has anyone any ideas?
That's right guys - do the work for me.

May even start the damn project meself...just wanted to hear some impressions such as 'I'd never play that', or 'Yes, go ahead, just what we wanted'.
So go ahead.
What am I, a marketing guru? Watch as I probe the prospective user group, pillaging ideas and inspiration.
I present: Fingernail's Patented "Pragmatic" Mod Starting Technique.
The ingredients were all there: an existing and solid fan base, a certain number of which were dissapointed by Thief 3 for various reasons, or its then unreleased toolset; a highly moddable game with a similar graphical look to Thief 3 just released - and available on more platforms, not to mention with the id stamp of QUALITY ENGINE all over it; all it took was a flashpoint, just me saying "Howsabout it, fellas?".
AND NOW I REAP ALL THE GLORY AND MONEY.
Fingernail on 3/1/2006 at 17:57
Actually all of the above is all lies - the depth of my thought on the matter at the time of making that original post was I'd just played Doom 3 and I thought to myself - this has similar shadows to Thief 3, and it's dark. If someone were to make a Thief mod - then this would be a prime candidate for the engine. Of course, it developed from there and I began to think, "perhaps it's so crazy it might just work"....
And I also must sincerely apologise for totally hijacking this thread on a faux-vanity/irony rampage. I realise that there is a very thin line between irony and reality, and I'm in mortal peril of teetering on the edge.

To be quite honest we have more than enough writers
So, shouldn't this thread be retitled "Seeking Artists" then?
Kingers on 3/1/2006 at 18:48
Hah, Nice! TDM it is then!
Aedryn on 3/1/2006 at 19:28
Why the fuck did you start another thread?

I would play it, but I can't help you. I'm working on my own Thief 2 fan mission as we speak, it's called "Enchanted Evening at St. Dunstan's."
Classic. :D

...the top secret, previously unanounced DarkMod version of the classic Fan Mission 'Bucket Get' is filling that lofty mantle. I'll start making threads just as soon as we've got a banner graphic. We are currently seeking animators to finely tune the Dark Mod AI to faithfully reproduce the eerie star posture adopted by the Bucket's secretive guards.
...I thought we agreed we'd keep this a secret.
