Presenting the new weapon in the war on terror. A british company (
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-15775612) just developed a weird new weapon to deal with terrorist threats and hostage situations: a cannon that shoots water bottles (the kind used in water coolers). From the video it looks devastating.
The humble office water cooler bottle is being deployed in the latest military hardware to deal with hostage situations and terrorist threats.
Cardiff-based BCB International has developed the Wall Breaker, a bizarre cannon that fires the water bottles into buildings at high speed.
The firm is already exporting it to military and security forces worldwide.
Business Minister Edwina Hart is touring the company later, marking its 25% rise in sales this year.
Here is the company's video demonstrating the device.

I don't know what's worse: the fact that they felt the need to invent this thing, or the fact that it's selling to the world's modern militaries despite being - in both looks and functions - a slight upgrade to a 18th century cannon.

They probably though the technology was good, but the fact that you had to use cannonballs centuries ago (which were metal and thus expensive to make) made them impractical nowadays - until they came up with the idea of using water bottles, which are super cheap and cause the same amount of damage. Though honestly I don't know how this would be better than tear gas or flashbombs in hostage situations - unless the objective is to break into a building by force

Bizarre. It's got to be just for making an entry hole. And although it clearly packs a whallop, that ain't a real wall. I can't see that version at least working too well on anything stronger than a house.

Plus, in the demo, they had to wheel it up point-blank. So not actually of any use unless no one is shooting at you.

Perhaps the advantage is that the ammunition can be transported easily? i.e. bring an empty bottle, then fill it with water? Fun to watch, silly that someone is making money off it.

That and it more easily cleans up after itself.
Still not as crazy as an aircraft carrier made out of ice or chickens sitting on nuclear mines, but it's a respectable entry on the list.
