I have to agree with Thirith on this one. I never could connect with Geralt, his personality grated on me like sandpaper. It actually prevented me from really liking the entire game, which sucks because everything else was perfectly in place to be loved. I have always had the opinion that if I am going to spend a couple dozen hours immersing myself into a character's life he damn well better be able to be: likeable, funny, a bad ass, or at least interesting. Geralt was bad ass, but it wasn't quite enough to push him over the edge into likeable territory.
That said: I am waiting for reviews and TTLG/Quarter to Three opinions before I slap my cash down for the sequel. I am getting bad vibes from the previews I have read and am leery.

How come Geralt wasn't likeable? While he does have a far more established personality than most RPG player-controlled heroes (except JRPGs were everyone is Emofag McPussweeps), you nonetheless had quite a bit of choice if you want to help people out or not, how you helped them( the elfs vs the templars, rescuing or killing the werewolf guy, saving or killing the princess etc.), and in some cases, what kind of (if any) payment you took for it. Not to mention the whole Triss relationship and the kid upbringing. Thus, I played a goody two-shoes that, while acted tough and badass, he only acted so in public to PROTECT THE ONES HE LOVED ;_;

I'm honestly starting to think this is just a myth started by FF7's hype backlash, because nobody to date has ever been able to give a proper example that isn't a cartoonish overstatement. And no, FF7 doesn't count either- the characterization is most certainly
not Marvel material.

Honestly I've found that a lot of non-FF JRPG protagonists are closer in personality to an animu character like Naruto. Full of pep, childish, driven, possessing grand ambitions.

God dammit I'd forcibly burned all memory of that game out of my brain. Thanks a lot, Phatose, now I have to get out the blowtorch again.
