The basics...
AMD Opteron 185
4Gb PC3200
Geforce 8800GTS 512
I'd say if you've got a Core2Duo level CPU and a goodly graphics card, you can run the game with most everything set to medium and a modest screen res no problem.
For reference, these are the settings I'm using

First off, the performance. More than amazing. [...] Turns out I can play the game perfectly smoothly with most everything set medium/high (besides ubersampling and ingame DOF) at 1280x720, and still maintain a 30-50 FPS average. I haven't even seen it begin to chug about. Considering my computer is old as ancient, only barely outpacing the minimum system requirements, this is an impressive feat when you take into account all the neat things the game throws about with wild abandon.
What the... could you post your specs? My PC is practically also just barely edging over the minimum requirements and I've been postponing playing this game because it looks borderline unplayable. 1680x1050, Low Spec config preset (except for turning Texture Downsizing off since it made no difference), on a C2D 2.13, 3 gig RAM and a 9800GT. Load up the first level and walking around camp nets me 12 to 28 FPS, reaching the low ends when I turn the camera mostly.
Edit: Renz, baby, we're in sync. Cheers, now excuse me while I go give find some racing stripes to paint on my PC.

Ostriig: Try bumping down your resolution to 1280x768ish. If I try running the game at 1920x1080 while I'm outdoors, I get 15-20 FPS at the best of times, whereas the same scenes at 720 are silky buttery smooth.

I'll give it a shot. I hate running games at sub-native resolutions, but that may end up being the only way to play this one for the foreseeable future.

I just installed FRAPS for the first time in years. Turns out I'm not as good at judging framerates as I used to be. 40-50 FPS should be readjusted to 25-35 on average. I guess it seemed smoother to me because there's absolutely no hitching whatsoever, and the motion blur helps interpolate things a bit.
So I'm actually running it only slightly better than you are. And you can account for that difference by the resolution.

:confused:Can anyone tell me who to get the beehive bombs from? I've trolled round all the merchants I can find, searched every box, sack cupboard, and I'm coming up blank. I can't seem to get the Nekkar nests with the other bombs.
Advice gratefully accepted...

I believe this was a translation error - the bomb you actually need is called grapeshot. In chapter 1, Cedric should sell the bombs as well as the crafting diagrams.

yes, and you only need as many bombs as there are nests to destroy: 3 or 4 afaik
