Azerbaijan's had a way better presentation and the song itself was also good.
Other than that, I feel that (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmmMU34ha5I) Germany's entry deserved better than 21st place. They probably shouldn't have won but the top 10 would have been deserved. Same for (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2afgTGmEMb8) Ireland - last place? Really? There were probably 5-10 entries worse than them... :tsktsk:
Funny how different tastes in music can be :) I couldn't UNDERSTAND why Azerbaijan was so popular, the song was completely forgettable (although I admit the singer was a sex-god, so maybe he got lots of women's votes).
Germany's song was embarrassingly similar to Loreen's Euphoria, and Ireland was so generic it seemed they didn't bother really trying this year.

Countries vote other countries for reasons that are everything except the actual song in contest.

I like Eurovision more and more with each passing year but this time I sadly missed it.
Its stuff like the Romanian entry and sax guy that make it so awesome. Last year there were guys who made a boat. Its just so bonkers awesome in a way that is just so Euro!! :D
I even love the clear country rigged voting. Cyprus? Oh, that'll be all the Greek points then. Latvia? Lithuanian present for you!

Eurovision is one of those things I try to ignore but end up catching parts of.
It's hardly a tough crowd, but here's one entry that managed to get booed:

At the very least you should go to 1:35. It looks like
one of those exorcism films where the victim gets contorted in all sorts of horrible ways.

So what's the reason for everyone voting for Denmark this year?

should have added: "most of" to the beginning. There was good examples all over voting this time about it also. Like, how do you think Azerbaijan or Russia or Greece would have been there on top list otherwise? ELI MITÄ VITTUA!? :D

This is a big European thing, right?
...so why is everyone singing in English?
English must be the
lingua Franca of international pop music. Which probably isn't much to brag about.

So, this Eurovision thing, it's like your took American Idol and added in the political machinations of the Olympics?

Come now, don't pretend you don't know that there is a bunch of patriotic/friendly tactical voting.
"Tactical voting"? When you say it like that it sounds like it's being masterminded by someone, rather than just regular folks voting for their favourite songs.

Statistical analysis of the results between 2001 and 2005 suggests the occurrence of regional block voting; it is a matter of debate whether it is primarily explained by conscious political alliances or by a tendency for culturally close countries to have similar musical tastes.
My money's on the second one. The Swedish song got a lot of radioplay here over the past few weeks/months, so I'm not surprised a good chunk of Finns ended up liking and voting for it. (it got 4 points from us)
I suppose you could speculate that the radiostations are having their strings pulled by someone in the top levels of government who wants to influence the outcome of the voting. If that's what you wanna believe, go right ahead.
