It's an old tradition and a form of politeness to give points to neighbouring countries. But this year Sweden, Norway and Estonia didn't give us any :(

What? Who gives these points? Did you vote for any of our neighbors? I didn't. I voted for Hungary.
And noone voted for us because our song wasn't very good. It's about the music. Politeness and politics have nothing to do with it.

I liked Finland and Hungary. Finland's song was of the catchiest, I thought. Was cheesy though.
However, I tried to vote for Hungary, but my phone has been "barred" from calling 09 numbers, apparently.
I could have used the landline phone but that would have involved getting up from the sofa and away from the wine and wasabi peanuts, so I didn't.

haha I wish I could share henke's idealism.
Anyway the romanian falsetto wizard was defiinitely the highlight for me.

"Tactical voting"? When you say it like that it sounds like it's being masterminded by someone, rather than just regular folks voting for their favourite songs.
I'd love for someone to plot a correlation between points awarded and geographical proximity (sharing border = 0). My prediction is strong positive.

Not sure why you're quoting my post there faetal. If you think I disagree that geographical proximity plays a part then you haven't been paying attention. I just believe the reasons behind "block voting" are cultural, not political.
faetal on 20/5/2013 at 10:41
Could be I guess. Still seems to dampen any real feeling of contest though.

Might be difficult to judge from the UK, too, since we don't seem to really have any particular sense of cultural OR political identity with anyone on the continent. Especially at the moment (fucking UKIP? Seriously??). Plus we're mostly all tossers anyway, so probably just vote for "silliest hair" or (more likely) shortiest skirt.

Oh henke! You can't explain it as cultural similarity when it happens no matter how awful a song is.
I quiet liked Belgium BTW.
And when is Wheatus starting the lawsuit against Estonia?
