I wish US states could do something that expresses their different cultures or puts them on display for each other like this. It's to the point you can even really tell what's unique one state to another anymore, and I think part of that is there's no chances to ever bother coming up with what makes us *us* that we can show to the other states... The only thing I can think of where states even compete are beauty pageants, which are the scourge of Western civilization BTW. And there's the electoral college to elect the president.
People are very mobile in the US though, & there are a lot of states, and TBH there isn't too much difference state to state (we're lucky we still have regional differences), so I'm not sure something like this could work anyway.
