I cant find the door to the outside whee the two talismans are. The switches are open, I got "the noise", so what gives? Where's the exit? I see the talismans, but I cant get to them. My video card is kinda sketchy, could it just not be broadcasting the open door?
Confused........:(

There are no talismans outside. As I recall both are inside behind the torture chamber.
There are switches outside, but no talismans, and you need to exit the building to complete the mission, but you can exit the front door, or over the rooftops from either balcony.

Questions that popped into my head:
The bridge hasn't extended? Are you on the floor looking up at the talismans? Got a rope arrow? Did you use the Hammer from the Priest's room on this floor, the bridge will extend if you enter the room from the level above the floor. Do you have the Wallbuilder's Prayer? Is this your first time through?
Not reading this as I begin a Thief Gold replay tonight.

I'll post this in both places.
You have only 5 minutes, that's 5 minutes to throw the switches and get to the room where the talimans are.
You need a key in the form of: the sacred hammer from the head priest.
This will get you to where you need to go and solve the problem.
You also need the prayer scroll to allow you to pickup the taliman in one of the vaults, if you don't have these two items and if you do not get there and use the "key" before the 5 miuntes are up, then the vaults will be closed.
All this information is in the scrolls and other items that you must read, or should have.
I strongly suggest that you slow down, read everything you find that is readable, pay attention to the briefings and the objectives and simply try to get through the mission and not "race" through, or try to "beat" the game.
It don't work that way. You will shoot yourself in the foot every time. If you have not played much of Thief before and attempt to play it as if it were DOOM or some such... You LOSE! Big time.

I've often wondered, is there a way to get the glyph(s) without triggering the alarm? I'd always had the impression that reading the prayer would allow it but the alarm always rings anyway.

I believe it's automatic.
Lemme check what the "ghosters" have to say....

heh, I didn't know there was an *actual* necromancy warning in these forums :cheeky:
Anyway, I recently played through TDP and noticed the topic on Undercover. As someone who tries to ghost (by my own definition of ghosting, anyway), Undercover is probably the biggest pain out of any Thief mission -- TDP, TGold, TMA, or TDS -- in that regard. Still a fun mission, but one that comes with a guaranteed bust at the end, and, since I don't allow myself reloads, usually comes with several busts before that anyway. Never been able to ghost the High Priest's area, for example.
My method is usually to steal as much out-of-the-way loot as I can, and then resign myself to KOing like crazy before I go after the Talismans. Of course, there's not much out-of-the-way loot in Undercover, so the KO party usually starts early. Problem is, you really need to KO absolutely everyone in the mission in order to make it back out to the streets without getting caught. And that's a bit hard to do, considering there are several Hammerites in the barracks just standing there looking at each other, and you can't KO one of them without getting caught by the other.
I'm curious how any other ghoster-types approach this mission. Go for all the KOs, figuring it's better to KO than be seen; or just grab the Talismans and run like hell, figuring it's better to be seen than KO? Or any other options I haven't thought of, for that matter?
