Romney was going to win the nomination anyway, but at least now nobody has to actually argue about it anymore. At least I can be content that the GOP is going to back the least worst candidate. In the Tea Party heyday of the last few years, it wasn't clear that would happen at all. That's not saying politics "works", but it does seem there's a natural mechanism to weed out the fringe crazies that sometimes works.

Yeah but it also tends to filter for precisely the sort of hyper motivated personality types which are worst suited to hold public office. And too often they are lacking a sense of social connectedness with the peasants, being that it's pretty rare for a working stiff to get much beyond school trustee or dog catcher when it comes to elected office.
I say pick them all by lottery and screw elections entirely. As it is we don't really know what we are getting in any case and it is most likely
not what was advertised anyway, so there's no great loss taking shots in the dark.

So basically the race is now between a moderate, anti civil liberties elitist with a neoconservative foreign policy agenda on the GOP ticket, and a moderate, anti civil liberties elitist with a neoconservative foreign policy agenda on the Democratic ticket.
edited: Santorum dropping out isn't justice. What would be justice would be to subject him to the same treatment he wants other people to be subjected to. I suggest that we arrest him without a warrant and deny him all access to legal counsel or even admitting that he was arrested, because to do so is a state secret, and ship him overseas where he can be tortured mercilessly for a few years.

But then you might end up with Koki in charge.

It still amazes me that these nutters are even in the running for anything important at all.
