They filmed Half-life 2 (Escape from City 17). It's high time for Thief to be filmed! - by Bulgarian_Taffer

A thief movie has been discussed and even had scripts written for it at least twice now that I recall. Both times the script writers wanted to radically alter the storyline for "cinematic purposes", and both times were shot down by various fans (myself included) who don't like their beloved canon mucked up.
I'm all for a Thief movie done right. But if Garrett isn't losing his eye, or is having a fling with Viktoria, or they make major changes to character motivations, or plot, or any such nonsense, count me out.

Damn, there goes my "Gay Garrett Getting a Good Giggle" movie idea... :(
kamyk on 17/8/2009 at 08:41
Hey, change that title by one word and you have a great gay porn Thief title on your hands there.
"Gay Garrett gets a good goosing"...
Edit:On second thought I'm not really sure I want to encourage this direction to the thread... :nono:
How about: "The dead Garrett sketch" instead?
"He is an ex-Garrett. He has gone to meet his builder. He is no more."
or: "Garrett's daughter and the Necromancer's stone."
or: "Interview with the Hammerite."
or: "Thief wars episode one:The Hammer menace."

And maybe some movies about side-persons?
The GodFarkus
"I'll make you a lockpick you can't refuse."

Escape from city 17 - best fan movie. Plus they used my home city in the beggining shot of city 17.
A thief fan movie could be done, but it requires money, people, resources to do it. And I have my doubts over the quality of such a film if it would be made. :erg:

Sorry but this fan movie is rubbish.
Yes, it looks quite good and the effects at the start are especially cool.
But the acting and the screen play are absofuckinglutely diabolical. Crud. A pox on film.
If Thief fan film were anything like this... :eww:
Seriously, just because something is based on something awesome you like doesn't make itself any good unless it is actually good. Which this isn't.

Yes, but now that Thief is in the mainstream ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128232) see here), you can be sure that there'd be some Hollywood level talent just waiting to do the story justice :laff:
Seriously though, the fan made film 'The Hunt for Gollum' was surprisingly well made for such a small budget (I think they claimed it was around £5000, which sounds like the budget for the camera). I have no doubt that this community is capable of making a decent thief, or thief inspired film. Not blockbuster quality, or ground-breaking, but decent as far as the visuals go.
Also, speaking of fan made movies, does anybody have a link to that short fan made thief movie made by some french guys?

John Carpenter's first film, (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069945/) Dark Star, was made for about $30,000. Sci Fi geeks might note that it starred Dan O'Bannon, who went on to write the screenplays for
Alien and
Heavy Metal, along with a host of forgettable 80's sci-horror flicks.

A short film, maybe?

Any film students here full-time?
Any computer work should actually be spent on the The Dark Mod or T3Ed tweaking.:p
Could we even fund this thing? There would have to be several cameras to work with around the globe, or very fortuitous with the location and the actors together. Real life can't be counted on not to derail production by taking any key and irreplaceable person of the production. For every physical performance actor in an isolated location, there would have to be a green-screen and chroma-key setup, and the primary voice-actors already have a good mic setup, but any extras would need it as well.
Can we pool enough money, and can we coordinate through conferencing over the 'Net since we couldn't all be together?
Can we obtain filming licenses with all the locations? I think having the film animated like the cutscenes, with matted backgrounds and Photoshop work would work best for this. If we could get the best subtle physical actors with the best silhouettes, and have the best voice-actors lip-sync, we would be able to combine all the best performances. Photoshop artists could fix gestures, odd costume movements and shapes, place and track objects in the actors' hands, create object shapes of all sizes and types to replace stand-in props (like turning a cardboard box into a dining room table), enhance timing and spatial relationships between actors, and the actors wouldn't have to be in the same room together.
So far, just about every live-action film has lacked focus and direction, and filming around ruins doesn't really work.
