They filmed Half-life 2 (Escape from City 17). It's high time for Thief to be filmed! - by Bulgarian_Taffer

Here's where it starts to get heated.:p Is this an animated FM or a movie version of the established story?

A non-canon story if we must...
But then again, it's got to capture the beauty of Thief, so the perfect idea in my opinion is to be ambiguous of the plot, and rely heavily on scenery and action to give us something unique. Er, even better, let's have a setting that can allow us to create a clever storyline...
For example, it can either have a true-to-it's-word run-of-the-mill Thief-esque plot (Gotta pay the rent. Some rich nobleman Blah Blah, etc. etc.)
Or... And this is just off the top of my head: we could really take influence from what the original thief games themselves were influenced by... First it was a decade seemingly threatened by the Trickster. Garrett saves the day: The End. Oh, now it's a crazy guy with a lisp. Garrett saves the day, but loses the girl. Hell knows what in TDS, and now we are just left to wonder: how would a good short thief fanfilm play out? Are we talking true to the roots, or maybe something more clever then that?

So, no themes, just imagery and sound that means very different things to different viewers? A showcase of that world, with a cloaked figure as our eyes and ears moving through it?

You obviously don't watch silent films much...
So what, is Garrett going to be speaking nonstop? Hell no, he can't be that horribly cheap. I'm talking of a storyline that's clever not through dialogue but actions...
It's not like we're making a Terminator Fan Film here...

Now now. I didn't say one darn thing about anybody speaking a single word or not in the film in my response to your suggestion.
Do you want a story or not? It cannot be ambiguous, so I don't know what thought you had behind that word. :erg: People need to be able to ask questions for clarification. There needs to be a team for this level of production, or a very skilled and well-equipped person who likely doesn't need our input anyway.
On a serious note: Leave my personal life out of it, please. I will abandon this thread like that-- >SNAP!< --if words are put in my mouth and unformed ideas are inflexible and poorly described so others have to pull teeth for no reason. Suggestions have to be discussed and communicated well enough to get people on the same page, or it will never happen.
I asked you what you meant, and told you how it sounded without more info.

Sorry, but it's not like we're at much of a fault here. I would at least like to stir up community support, and well, can we just wait a little? We need to at least stir up support b4 we come to decisions...
I should stop. I have an idea, but it's not good to piss someone off already. My idea is open for moderation, though I'm hoping that moderation is additive rather than subtractive...
It will take place in a refuge time in between the thief-verse renaissance and the metal age, in which society will have met a meeting point between the world of technology and the development in of stronger, more efficient technology. I hate resorting to "Rob this, rob that!" so let's just say it's an off-canon sub thief plot in which Garrett finds himself in quite a sticky situation.
Where is it to be set? Time and participation from the community can only tell.
I'll admit, I should better define this... tomorrow. We need to at least prove we have better ideas for a story than (
http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2009/07/ideas-arenas-modern-way-to-write.html) DreamWorks...

I think Thief would make a great movie. Maybe not TDP, but TMA sure would...
Actually, I always thought TDP would make a great movie. Between Cragscleft, Constantine's manor, The Old Quarter/Cathedral, Mage Towers, Lost City, and The Maw, it would make for some potentially great settings.
Edit: And for the record, I think City 17 is way overrated. Besides the fancy CGI at the beginning, it's a bunch of dudes running between trains firing uzis, just not that interesting.

*just a quick weigh in*
Yes, a Thief film should be made.
...so all the fans can bash absolutely every aspect of the film, right down to the casting director, and complain about how "they" fucked it up.
I smell yet another highly successful translation from game to film.

There were serious plans to do a short movie, cutscene style, possibly with a few live actors. Due to lack of time the project is on hold, or more precisely it hasn't really started yet.
