Are you addressing me personally? Or saying "you" as in the ones who haven't stopped posting about it specifically, yet? You are allowing yourself to get caught in the yin yang loop, when you can just ignore the thread, and it's not mature of you at all to take this tact.
As I've said...already they have done something they will never be able to live down, and the bitching will continue forever.

As a graphics design decision, I get why they did it.
...and now I think I understand too. Thanks for that!

No, I'm addressing everyone.
How is it not mature of me to point out that a bunch of other people are being immature?
I've said my piece and I won't say it again. If you all want to waste time and forum space be being twits that's up to you.

The logo was likely produced by some goons in marketing who have nothing to with the development of the actual game, but have to try and sell it using their 1337 hipster marketing skillz. Being in marketing, they probably think that this is the kind of cool gamer underground stuff that we will really buy into.
That said, it is damn funny to scream revelations and damnation about it.

Again, I feel as though you have lumped me in with this, when I keep bitching about the bitching, too! :laff:
It's the name-calling and the tone I always hear when you get in these moods. You say it's not how it sounds, so I try to respect that, but I'm letting you know it sounds overly bothered. You've made the point, heh heh, so you could just roll your eyes and step away from the hopeless scene. As I've been stating, they need to burn it out of their systems, and with this as the only real news, and as long as it channels the high-energy excitement somewhere, I can be tolerant. I only brace myself for the future when we will see just who really can't let it go. For now, it's only been a couple of days!

You know, I think this is probably spot on. I have a friend in advertising, and he is a very casual gamer, and I can completely see him not "getting it" and thinking this was the coolest thing ever.
Who can blame him/them? Most of the world isn't made up of a bunch of diehard gaming geeks.

Yeah.
Another example of an in-house artist that didn't get it was the guy who designed the LGS logo.

It's very easy and convenient now for EM to say the "Thi4f" thing is a joke, but that's pretty weak.
Especially when Stéphane D'Astous himself said in his interview:

Presently the only asset that we're able to release is the logo, which we're pretty proud of as it's very respectful of the franchise and you can recognise it very rapidly,
Doesn't sound much like they meant it like a joke, unless they have a VERY dry wit.

I don't believe it was a joke. I think they wanted something with more visual punch than the game's name with a number after it. They wanted to do something that looked like nothing any fan would do, in order to make it clear that this was official. They understood that there was a remarkable level of balance to the Thief logo as it stood, and that adding something after it breaks that balance, so they decided to include the 4 somewhere in the logo, not actually intending it to replace the E, as it would in 1337 speak, but simply filling the space where the E would go. I believe they were successful in all of that. As a graphics design decision, I get why they did it.
Very sound description, I've been trying to say this but I'm not so smart or eloquent.
