i just installed thief DP on my new pc the other week - i had the "Direct3D Texture Error" and bikerdude sent me the patch for it (while this site was down) thx biker - now i have a problem where thief says theres no CD in the cd rom - i can boot up thief from the cd and the install window appears but when i click run (as it installed fine) it says insert the CD. iv read the FAQ and it says its a known problem with some versions of Thief 2, and theres a patch for it but it doesnt mention this problem with thief DP. can anyone help me?

The easiest way to fix this is to find the install.cfg file in your Thief directory and open this in Notepad. Then, put a ; in front of the line that starts with "cd_path". This will stop Thief requiring the CD when you run it, although you if you didn't do a full install then you will still need the CD in the drive for certain things (namely cutscene movies).

Try installing darkloader and follow these steps to allow Thief 1 fms to play on your computer:
1) Copy a file called "convict.osm"
-also install "tgpatch_basic.exe"
2)put 1 Thief 1 fm in a new folder under the darkloader folder-which is in your program files directory (name the folder whatever you like--doesnt matter)
3) Test if weapons and door work
-if so, your fine
-if not, restart this entire process
After you have followed these steps, at the top of darkloader, there should be an icon called "Thief 1 Original". Highlight and click play. At this point you should be able to successfully play Thief DP. The only thing is...if you have been creating fms and have them open when in either Thief DP or Thief MA, then you must erase this before being able to play the game. Good luck!

And if it works always quit your FM and REINSTALL ONLY one of the original games TDP, TGOLD, or TMA.
Then quit Darkloader. If you don't you are likely to get a false start menu the next time you open a original game file.
For example, you play Rowena's Curse, and quit both the FM and Dark. Then you try to play TGOLD from the Dark menu. You see Rowena's Curse as the start menu.
So start Dark, select the FM, play the FM, quit the FM, Reinstall one of the OM's and then quit Dark.

Thanks or all your help but i stil carnt get it to work - Iv installed DarkLoader and thief 2 ran fine from that, as do thief 2 Fan Missions. I can swap between FM and the Game with No problems, then a FM decided to crash and now thief 2 wont load at all  - think im gona have to reinstall it :(
Thief 1 DP still refuses to load and nor do FM's for thief 1 or Gold - I click to play - the screen goes Black and i get an Thief DP error message - saying it has encounted a problem and needs to close. iv tryed copying all the thief DP CD contence onto the hard drive then changing the cd path to the harddrive but it still says insert CD.
Anybody got any other ideas i can try ?

Uninstall Dark using the Uninstall option.
Uninstall all the THIEF games.
Remove all the files and folders for THIEF that remain.
Reboot.
Install the THIEF games, A FULL install. Make a single THIEF folder, then install each into that in its own folder. You will have a THIEF folder with sub-folders for each game.
Do all the patches if needed. Install Darkloader. Run Darkloader and locate all the games, and the FM folders. Optimize if asked.
Don't put all the FM's in a single folder. Have a FM folder where you download the FM. Then have a FM-1 and FM-2 folder.
Move an FM from the bulk folder to the proper FM-1/2 folder ONE AT A TIME AS YOU PLAY THEM. Sometimes you will get a corrupt DL. Darkloader will crash if you have such a FM in the folders where Dark looks. Even if it is one you are not or have not played. Dark reads every FM in the location you told it the FM's are. If one is corrupt, then DARK fails.
If you load a FM and Dark crashes REMOVE THAT FM and try another.
