I guess the stupid Metallica thing will never die. I've liked them since 1985 and really, really like Load and Reload. So where does that put me?
I didn't get into PC gaming until 3 years ago, when I played Thief (I had never heard of it). Sure, I had played Doom and Quake, but I wasn't ready for anything like this. (and the aging of 3D graphics wasn't an issue) So, I think to play it first is important--it sets the standard for the future games. If you start with Thief 3, you won't be able to see how fresh it really was.

There is no "excessive freedom of movement". Unless you are referring to the "headbob" or such.
Sorry for the delay theBlackman.
I like being vague, but I will explain this one a little. In keeping with the whole running, jumping, climbing, and swimming nature of Dark Project, I meant that if Deadly Shadows had these types and sizes of Missions, Garrett, who moves like he is wearing a full diaper, would have potentially made the game even worse! Fortunately, our handicapped Garrett that we know and love from Deadly Shadows, is confined to tiny Missions.
About the Metallica thing. I'm not a fan of them *anymore*. Back when I was a teenager though, oh trust me, I was a bonified sheep. :)

Not to derail too much, but I was a die hard Metallica fan back yesteryear, and I honestly loved Load/Reload when they came out. Even though I'm still a big metal and industrial fan years and years later, I've found that I listen to Load and Reload a lot more than their earlier albums; so much so that they've started to collect dust (although, the black album and Garage Days Re-re-re-revisted :D still get a decnet amount of play). Maybe I just like the more mature sound of the two albums, IDK.
Anyhow, I can't really say in that respect that TDS was more mature than TDP/TMA, in as many ways as it was a step forward, it was also a step back.

bonified
Please tell me you don't think it's actually spelled that way.

Nabbed by ZylonBane! :cheeky:
/me races off to the digital dictionary...
Ya know, it felt dirty when I was first typing it, but I let it ride. Nevertheless, I have been called out. The correct spelling is indeed:
bon(a)fied
Curses! Foiled again!!

For me Thief 1 style missions are pretty good and more interesting than those from Thief 2. All T2 missions are human missions mainly, and T1 ones are more different from each other, crypts, caves, zombies, burricks etc. Total loot in Thief 2 is much harder to find than in T1. When I firstly saw T2 I was very surprised because I expected it to be like Thief 1, maybe that's because I used to it. Also T2 sometimes makes slowdown, for instance in Soulforge Cathedral. Thief 2 has the better engine, but Thief 1 is less buggy.

I'm in the process of playing through T2 again. It's been years since I first played it. Honestly it makes me wish they had made T3 using the old engine with some upgrades. The only mission in T3 I would miss from the new game engine is The Cradle which is absolutely fantastic but I bet with some upgrading of the older engine it could have been just as good, much larger, and without the load zone.
I'm just on the 2nd mission in T2. The docks area is just amazing. I love the size and realistic feeling of the place. It makes the docks in T3 look like a joke. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they did T3 and I enjoyed it but after going back and playing through T1 again and now starting T2 I can really see how stripped down they had to make T3 on that new engine. It's sad because I know the original programmers would never have wanted it to be like that. Tiny levels with load zones all over the place. To be honest, except for the lighting (shadows and such that T3 had), the graphics in T2 really aren't bad at all.

Three. "Bona fide" isn't a single word.
