So I really love Thief but I've wanted to know how many people like thief 1 and how many like thief 2:cheeky:

For me, T2's better graphics, colored lights, and smoother visuals actually detracted from the atmosphere for me. And truth be told, I never found myself as invested in the missions as in T1. I don't even know if I've even played all the way through T2, to be honest >_>
Heck, I enjoyed Thief 3 more than T2. I think T2 lost me at "casing the joint". Which disappoints me, because the idea sounds awesome, but I couldn't get into it. Also, something about the whole idea that Garrett needed to gather evidence to justify going after Karras... I mean, couldn't Victoria just be like "So you wanna go rob Karras and break his shit?" "Why should I-" "I'll pay you 50 thousand" "Sold!" "...works every time." ? Instead I'm going to underground lairs and secret island bases and robbing a mansion twice and what is all this I don't even...
So yeah...

Thief: the Dark Project is the undisputed classic of the series, whereas Thief II was a pretty fair forgery.

Thief 1/Gold, no contest. I get bored rather quickly with most of T2's OMs, and the game doesn't have the charm of its predecessor.

Yeah I personally only like Thief 1 because it is so much better and more entertaining than thief 2:cheeky: Thief 2 is too plain with the textures because it takes out a lot of the thief 1 textures and it's just all boring with the victorian and metal textures. Also there is no undead om's which really upsetted me when I played through it. Also the AI's have barely any variety, because theres no different types of guards like there is in thief 1 (Constantine guards, bafford guards, opera guards, mage guards) because in thief 1 the uniforms are very colorful and vary a lot in the different types of guards. Also I like the default original Thief 1 textures better than the updated thief 1 textures because the updated textures used in TFix are too boring and I just can't work in dromed with them because for example the default thief core textures have a varity in the cobble textures but the updated version of the core family's cobble textures are all the same which is too boring and plain for my liking:sweat: Woah I just explained a lot:laff:

Dark Project > Metal Age > Gold

Gold > Dark Project > Deadly Shadows > Thiaf > 2
(Seriously, Gold has one of the best missions in the entire series, how could you possibly rank it lower than TDP?)

skacky, Sneaky Guy101 I totaly agree with you.
Thief 1 is a lovely game. As Sneaky Guy101, I removed all the mod brought by TFIX, for a simple reason: If I dromed or play with Thief 1, it's for finding it 1999's shapes with lowpolys etc. The old game ambiant. With TFIX, everything is beautiful, of course ^^, but it's a bit too "thief2-like".
T1 texture are "GLOWER" than T2. It's colorful!
Moreover, some meshes that has been taker for TFIX as totaly changed the shape of a the guards. The Constantine Guards lost their awesome helmet for a round helmet Bafford-like. The diversity was bigger.
Now with NewDark, even T1 is moddable, so it's cool! Better: The txt16 file is reconized now then, the AI's Texture are more beautiful! :D
Even If I like Thief 2. It was easier to modify the game in 1.18.
Now with 1.21 the game is clearly better.
Sommary, IMO, Thief is better in matter of AI and missions.
But in matter of Dromed, I love the both.
Thief 2 got bots and I like them.

It also has one of the worst missions in the entire series. Thieves' Guild. Ugh, the only level I found to be a chore.
For me, The Dark Project is better than both The Metal Age and Gold.
While I found T2's industrial atmosphere very charming, I loved the more medieval feeling of its predcessor. It was the game that stood out among the shooterfest that was prevalent at the time. Thief 2 was merely a polished masterpiece, while TDP was the original masterpiece.

Mages were planned in Thief before the whole balance and Keepers concept was implemented, so the Mages' Tower mission looks out of place in the final game despite being a good mission by itself. Moreover, they borked my favorite Dark Project mission just so their Mages would be present at least somewhere outside their towers. The Thieves' Guild looks like some multiplayer arena quickly patched for single player. Little Big World and Blooper Reel are fun by themselves but they are easter eggs. So the only mission that really fits the game is Song of the Caverns, which is a really good mission with some insight on how Thief 2 will look like. Some minor tweaks I don't like too, like zombies falling down by the sword or apparitions not trying to gain distance before shooting. All in all, Gold is good as an add-on, but as a whole game it looks less focused with some things thrown in just for the sake of throwing them in.
