Well, in a couple of the original levels they add a new enemy. He's an invincible fire monster that gives you fire arrows when you shoot him with water arrows. I know they put him in the Bonehoard because you need fire arrows to progress at one point.

I never ran into that, where in bonehard was that? I never needed fire arrows to advance anywhere. Then again I was only playing on normal skill.

Well you're not gonna see the Fire Shadow unless you play
Thief Gold, and only if your explorations take you there before you meet the objectives. It's near a room where you need to light 5 torches to enter through the floor. If you've been collecting the golden bones, this is where you dispose of them for bonus items. That's why the developers added the Fire Shadow, to make sure you can meet the Expert objectives.

The fire shadow responds to any conventional damage, though he certainly dislikes water. Looking for a fire arrow? Whack the shadow with your sword. Nail him with a broadhead (safer!). He also hates the magical rain in the Hammerite shrine near the golden bones in the Bonehoard.

http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/keeperchapel/Bonehoard/souldoors.JPGI seem to remember reading that there's a Fire Shadow in
Thief Gold's Return to the Cathedral. It may only be there on "Normal" difficulty.

It's in the first Haunted Cathedral level isn't it? So that
you can fulfil the objective that requires you to light up the statue.

What's a fire shadow look like anyway? From what i'm gathering it's a non lethal (unles your'e too close) creatrue that you can carry around? How many fire arrows can it give you max?

You do realize that difficulty levels in Thief affect the number of objectives you're given, yes? By only playing through on Normal, you gypped yourself out of a significant portion of the game.
:tsktsk:

I want to say something about gypped so bad, but I know Zylon is right. :p
And yes, you missed most of the game, tafferboy. :)
ZylonBane on 2/7/2006 at 21:26
What, that "gypped" is considered by some people to be racist because it derives from gypsies? Meh, whatever. If anyone here is a gypsy, I apologize. Please don't put a hex on me.
To expand on what I said in my previous post, it's not just objectives or loot minimum that vary by difficulty level. Some missions block off entire sections of the level if you're only playing on Normal. For example, the first Haunt in the game is actually in the Bonehoard, but in an area you can't access at Normal and below.

yeah but hardly. There are VERY few areas like that
