Hey Guys,
I have been out of the forum for a long long time. Just came back to playing Thief 2 again. I was wondering is there a mod that allows you to play Thief 1 missions/Campiagn on Thief 2. I heard ages ago that there was such a campaign addon. BTW I have Thief 1 as well but would prefer to play Thief 2 since the graphics are a bit better.
Take Care

There are texture upgrades that improve the graphics for Tgold, and I think TDP, but no "PORT".

i can see the merits of such a project. coloured lighting, better models, fog, etc. the only question is the legality (i.e. it's not really legal, unless there were some program that checked to see if you had thief gold installed before installing the thief 2 version... which won't bloody happen, most likely)

Legality? Who exactly is going to interject? LGS is long gone and I doubt Eidos would care too much.

Its not even a question of who would object. If only T2 resources are used, then no law has been broken and no intellectual property has been infringed apon.
Its obviously legal to use garret and the whole thief cast for the thief universe. So if someone used the T2 editor and either used T2 content or imported NEW content then all would be kosher (in other words the only problem would be if someone zipped up the textures directly from the T1 CD and distributed it to those that didnt buy T1). As long as people use T2 or NEW content for their missions than it would be no different than what T2X accomplished. A new campaign for the T2 owners in the world. There have already been a couple of single missions redone but I think they were either redone comically or with great artistic freedom. I would really like a true to original entire game remake. If for nothing else than for the graphic drivers problems users are having. T2 seems to be standing up to technology progression much better than T1.
There are also workarounds for issues like content from T1. For instance, say you didnt want to remake the cutscenes for them since they are great and you wouldnt be changing the plot. Well, it would be illegal to distribute those, but you could package up the mod with them in mind and provide instructions for owners of T1 on how to copy and past the cutscenes in the proper directory.

As long as you use the same miss??.mis file as the one located before or after a cutscene, you wouldn't need to do anything. The misflag.str file would modified to skip the mission files until the cutscene or mis file is reached and would not require any mods by the player. :)
