but...
TDP has no slowfall or invisibility potions
That's a good thing!

It seems like the guards in T2 are tougher to blackjack when they are in a fighting stance against the player too. In T1, I could alert a guard, circle strafe around him while bonking him on the head and he would usually go down quietly.
Then again. this tactic could probably be considered cheating.

Really? I have almost always way more trouble blackjacking people in Thief 1 than Thief 2... Sometimes when I lean forward in TG and try to blackjack a Hammerite it won't work and he just gets hurt. (and more of those things...)

aww such memories of playing thief 1 for the first time.... and entering in the basement of lord Baffords...this slow pulsating rythmic music started and I was loathe to go on.....glad I did tho:cheeky:....what a 10 year love affair!!
its the ambient sounds of T1 that does it for me.

TDP has no slowfall or invisibility potions, and in TDP I have found no way to disarm mines.
WAIT!
You can disarm mines in Metal Age?
MINDBLOWING!

With lockpicks, yes. An addition in TMA, unused again in TDS.

The trick should have been in both. I love reusing mines that AI fail to trigger. But then I also love sliding them across the cobbles and then using a Broadhead to make them explode. :ebil:
The lockpick/mine trick is explained in the manual. Another reason to

Yes, I am sure that I disarmed mines in TDP, with lockpicks. The Haunted Cathedral comes into mind in that regard.
Now I have a bad case of TDP nostalgia, thanks to this thread... I hope it runs on this computer here.

It must be a bit touchier, then, as I never got it to work. I started with TMA so I was used to it before I got to TDP. Maybe the patches included some tweaks for it? I'll try again, shortly.
EDIT: It doesn't work in my version. I was able to creep right on top of it, it never highlighted, the lockpick never engaged it, and I jumped up to set it off.
From the TDP/TG Object Description (OBJDESC.str): 'use_mine: "This grenade will produce a fiery explosion when touched. Cost:350"'
From the TMA Object Description: 'use_mine: "This grenade has a proximity sensor, and will produce a \ fiery explosion when approached. \ Once it's armed, you can only \ disarm it with your lockpicks. Cost 350:"'
From the TDP/TG manual: "Explosive Mine - An explosive mine will sit around waiting for something to wander by, and then explode, doing a great deal of damage and making a great deal of noise. Like fire arrows, they're not very stealthy, but can be highly effective in the right situations."
From the TMA manual: Same thing, but under Lockpicks is added: "The lockpicks can also be used to deactivate mines that have not been detonated. Bring up the lockpick in your inventory and use it on the mine to deactivate it."

Also, I didn't know you could hold the blackjack up with the block key and then simply touch it to an AI's head to knock them out. Is this a bug? I saw people doing it on youtube and it made me ROFL. He doesn't even swing the thing and the guards just drop!
