I don't know why games would need to simulate eyes, because poeple playing normal games usually have real eyes to see for them. No need to emulate things that you usually don't even notice.
False. HDR/bloom/pupil simulation are techniques to compensate for the fact that a monitor's output gamut is a tiny subset of what you see in reality. For example, when you look at the sun in a video game, the monitor can't go any brighter than full white, so the mighty sun is effectively no brighter than a sheet of notebook paper. On the other hand, looking at the sun in real life is a good way to blind yourself. Quite a difference.

I actually don't mind the screencaps from the original post. Sure, the light sources are far too bright; but I do find the way that light now noticeably reflects off of objects to be an improvement.

I think you'll find you're imagining this.

I agree, I think that's an optical illusion brought on by heightened visual contrast.

Being the slobbering SlipTip fanboy I am, I really, really want to say that AA looks better, and in many ways it does... but it also seems hazy or blurry in places. And I don't like that. Same goes for LotP. If you could get the mild bloom without the haze, I'd be more tempted to try it out.

Hate to say this but it reminds me of playing Thief on an LCD...too much white, almost like the brightness is a tad too high
also, what pavlov said...

The outdoor effect is very pronounced, My monitor has a mode that artificially make the bright sources brighter and more contrasty, i imagine that with the bloom hack would look quite good..

That's bloom, not HDR.
