Hello,
I just bought the dramatically reduced Thief bundle over at Steam, since I don't have my Thief 1Gold/2 physicals here.
Sadly the Steam version (especially of Thief1 and 2) does not include german localization. I can read and understand english just as good as german, but for nostalgia reasons I'd really, really like to play with german audio.
Can anybody think of a way to include said audio into the steam versions? I do not care much about deadly shadows, since I never played it before, but I will surely give it a try now since it was included in the bundle.

The easiest way to do it is to place SND.CRF file from the German version into the Thief directory (steamapps\common\thief_gold) and modify
language string in INSTALL.CFG (DARKINST.CFG for Thief 2) so it'll look like:
Code:
language german+english
But it's much better to use a ZIP-archiver to add german voice files from german SND.CRF to the one which is located in \RES subdirectory. Don't permit it to overwrite the existing files, so that only the ones which are located in 'german' subfolders would be copied. This operation will make your setup more mod-friendly. Same tinkering with INSTALL.CFG (DARKINST.CFG) file is required.
Same actions can be performed with all other game resource archives: BOOKS.CRF, INTRFACE.CRF, etc.
Movie files which are located in MOVIES subfolder can be replaced with german ones right away without any other actions required.

Cool. Thank you, I always wondered how to achieve that.

Hi thx for the guide. this helped a lot. the only thing which stays in English is the mission briefing. So if anybody knows how I could fix that, that would be great.
