I got a tad board and start searching around for Thief 2 stuff. Then by chance I saw something talking about Thief 2 and System Shock 2 betas for the Sega Dreamcast. Apparently, there was talk about releasing these betas. I check a website that had links to the files, but the link didn't work. This makes me a bit skeptical about the whole thing, but it might be possible. So, is this real or a hoax?

I believe someone got SS2 working, but it's just one small corridor with horrible framerates. not even an alpha, more like "yes, we were able to launch the engine on dreamcast".

Hmmm... Sounds to me that just quickly ported it just for laughs.:p
In my opinion, I think it might be doable for both of those games to work on the Dreamcast and with a better frame rate. But I think LGS or Eidos probably saw where the Dreamcast was heading just like Konami did with their Castlevania game for it.
Of course I could be wrong about all of this. I'm no expert on the Dreamcast's capabilities.

probably doable, but an epic level of dreamcast programming skills would be required. I can see only the graphic side of the iceberg (making the dark engine make full use of the tile based rendering system that is used by the powervr gpu), and I can tell you that THIS. WOULD. NOT. BE. EASY.

Yeah, I'd figured it was already mentioned (DromEd laughing at me in the background). :p
Anyway, I'd doubt anyone would really go at trying to make it work.

You brought up a good analysis of the controls.

Left and right will be either weapon select or item select, and to be honest this is where I'm having trouble deciding. The default for left/right on D-Pad will be items, and tapping (not holding) right trigger will change to the weapons select, with left trigger instead selecting the weapon, and left/right going through weapons.
Maybe left on D-Pad can cycle items only one way, and right on D-Pad can cycle weapons only one way? They cycle back around anyway.
