I agree, anything over 1024x1024 is probably overkill and honestly will just bloat your mission ZIP at best, and bog down the engine at worst. Unless the brush you're putting it on is 256 units high or something comparably huge, I doubt you'll notice much difference beyond 1024.

Time ago in another community we worked on Quake 1 Re-Texture pack , used together Darkplace was like pack the house
DarkPlaces had Another notch in one's belt , because the patch DarkPlaces use the shader 3.0 ,and dynamic texture ,but if you useDynamic Texture the result is clear ,a bag of tricks :)

To me, that Quake video is a good example of where 4096x4096 textures might be useful, because all the hallways are just the same texture with little variation and decoration, and even the lighting doesn't really change the look of the texture. So the texture itself needs to do all the heavy lifting, and one main massive texture per level doesn't take up that much space.

the textures in video are not all in 4096, very few are in that resolution ,

Xorak ,About QuakeDarkplace, in fact it can't work on a normal pc , you need at least a Core Duo for play as .
anyway i've abandoned that team after the first release , but quake retexture project had another patch (Ultra pack)
everything has to be balanced. textures, lights, objects, of course, Otherwise the Scene it too heavy.
