Thief 2 Cutscenes Problems. - by Taux

Hello there, I am new to this Forum but have read a few other threads and followed your FAQ about how to resolve video issues on Thief 2, but unfortunately to no success.
Basically, no cutscenes will work, at first the screen just blacked out for a second and skipped, so then I tried this forum's advice and downloaded the latest Indeo Codec, then tried reinstalling the old one from the CD, then tried the "Regsvr32" Run command for the LGVID.AX file, to which I got the correct "Success" note to, but then when I tried to play the Intro to Thief two I got "Thief 2 has stopped working.....".
So then I tried to play the clips in WMP and that froze and I got the same error message too.
So after that I deliberately renamed the LGVID.AX file to "IGVID.AX" and the game and WMP would no longer freeze or stop working, but the movies in-game still wouldn't show, however the movies in WMP and other players would play but only sound, no video.
The FAQ featured a link to a fan-made patch that they said could fix it, but the link is 404 and it didn't specify the name of the patch, can anyone please help me with this issue?
Thanks.
EDIT: PS I'm using Windows Vista on an Acer Aspire 7720G Laptop. I am aware of the CPU issue with dual-proccessor but I have followed te advice and Thief 1 and 2 do work, but it's only the movies in Theif 2 that don't work.

Hi Taux,
You may find you have a lot more luck with the videos in Thief 2 (or Thief 1) if you "Run as Administrator". Some people find that works well, others report it isn't needed for them.
The lgvid.ax file is needed (and needs to be registered with regsvr32) for in-game movies. Also, don't use the Indeo codec on the CD, I haven't been able to get it to work on anything later than Windows 98... the one in the FAQ works great for me on Windows 7.

Thanks for replying mudi.
Tried the Admin option but still the same, and when I regester LGVD.AX with Resvr32 both WMP and Thief 2 Freeze and have to quit when I play Movies/Intro.

It's weird 'cause Theif 1's Movies are fine, and Theif 2's can play in WMP (if I rename LGVID.AX) but there's no visuals, only sound - but on the actual game nothing is shown.

I had the same problem, and so did my friend when he tried to play. We just went to Youtube and watched the cutscenes there.
But that's mostly because I didn't want to mess with anything, since everything else works fine without patches or tweaks, as long as it's running on one processor.

Why didn't you play them right out of the Movies folder? They aren't compressed and they are on the disc, too, so you can't mess anything up.:thumb:

Thanks Kohan, but unfortunately now all that happens is Theif 2/WMP freezes and I get the "Thief 2 has stopped working...." error message.
It's exactly the same thing that happened when I first registered LGVID.AX with Regsvr32.
This is irritating me now, it worked on my old Dell, but not on my newer Laptop, I'm gonna reinstall it (again!) but replace the old Movies with the ones you suggested, let's hope it works!
Anyways thanks for the info.
