Hey, When I try and play Thief 2 I get an error message when the actual level is loading. This also happens when I try and load a thief 2 fan mission with DarkLoader 4.2 . This is the message I get:
ERROR: Direct3d device driver does not accuratley report texture memory usage. Contact your 3d accelerator vendor for updated drivers
My video card drivers are up to date, I checked. Can anyone help? Whats the problem with this?
Thanks

Go to your T2 folder and find your user.cfg open it with notepad and look for the section below
;Some video cards may not work properly with Thief 2
;including the intel 810 and the nVidia RIVA 128.
;To fix, remove the semicolon from the next line.
safe_texture_manager
notice in the above witch I copied from mine there is no semi colon in front of
safe_texture_manager. It is as simple as that...just open your user.cfg with notepad and remove the semi colon and save .
good luck

Thanks for your help, that solved the problem. I'm having another problem with it playing now. The problem I'm having now is that after the level is loaded it plays for a few seconds then it freezes. I read in the "Thief Series FAQ" that its due to the hyperthreading of my processor. So I read the "Game Issues With Multiprocessor/Hyperthreading Systems" FAQ and did what it said to do to make it work. It didnt change anything and it still freezes. Is there something else I can do so I can play? Did I do something wrong maybe? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Im an AMD guy so I cant help you there...mabey you can disable Hyper threading in your bios or slow the CPU down....another suggestion I have for you is try an older Video Card driver. Just go to whoever made your video card and look for previous drivers.
Damn I read the faq and that seems like a lot of crap to go through. I cant wait to see what my quad core AMD chip does when I get one some day :p At least I know now now to keep my old stuff probably.
Good Luck :)

so the bring thief.exe up in the processes/uncheck CPU 1 thing didn't work?

I tried the permanent option and that didnt work. Maybe I did something wrong, is there a common mistake with this method? I just tried the "non-permanent" option and it worked for about 4 or 5 minutes then it froze like it has been. Does it matter what CPU number you uncheck when trying the non-permanent option? Also, when I've been trying these methods I've been using Dark Loader 4.2 and have been trying the thief 2 "airship" fan mission. Does that matter in any of this? Or do I need to do something more? Thanks for your help....

i've no clue. it probably has something to do with your AMD, since even the temp method (which i use) works for most people running pentiums.
now, this is a shot in the dark, but how many CPUs come up checked? 2 or 3? because if it's 3, you'll want to uncheck all but 1.
