ah now I see...I went into the waterpools earlier, but I didn't notice the opening into the water tunnel which leads to the sword
thanks a lot for the tip!

Using the walkthrough, I'm told that a guard will exit a north door with the key that you can steal. But if he doesn't come out of the door, you can find an alternate key from a guard on the third floor of the library entrence.
My problem is not only does a guard not exit the door referred to, but there is no guard on the third floor library entrence. So I must be wrong with where I think the third floor library door is. Is it the door on the north side of the main staircase (Lord's Bedroom level). If that's not the right door, where IS the right door.
I know there is a lot of terrain to cover, so I'll search for that third floor guard in the meantime.
Addendum : Ok, I figured it out. There is more than one third floor entrence to the library.

I rope arrowed up to the upper level so I could take out the guards first. If I'm remembering right it is the library where the lift was broken I think.
I loved this mission having played it only on normal and hard, I may go at it again on expert since it doubles in size depending on the difficulty setting.

I don't think there is a lift here, but I haven't gone totally through the mission yet, even though I've played this one before. The only thing I've taken out (so far) is one of the patrolling mech beasts ie) I'm ghosting 100%? or does de-activating a mechbot count as evidence of my presence

I just replayed this mission on expert and ghosted it (at least as far as the mission's ghost rules go). By the mission's rules you can take out a mech with water arrows (and humans with gas arrows) and not fail that objective. I just loaded up my last save and tried it to be sure since I didn't actually do it when I played through. If another AI comes along and see's the dead bot (or gassed human) then I'm pretty sure it will fail the objective. Using a fire arrow on the bots will alert the guards and fail the objective though (at least it did when I tried it...could have been the location though).
I'd played this mission probably half a dozen times on normal or hard difficulty but this was my first time ghosting it, or any, mission. It took right at 6 hours but almost every minute was fun.

I found the library with the lift, but it's not the library I was having problems with (you know a mission is large when you lose track of the libraries)

At the end of the mission, in the room where the vault opens in the ceiling......how do you extinguish the water elemental with the fire arrow without alerting the guards?
I've actually managed it (I thought) but as soon as I move around, the alert is triggered. Even plastering the area with moss arrows doesn't help.

The weather's not that nice anymore. Someone should be around :)

Ok, I solved the problem myself.
For anyone who ever comes across a similar dilemma, here is what you can try:
Before you shoot the fire arrow (which makes a big noise), close the door behind you. That is close it not from the switch behind the clock but from a side switch a little ways in. It acts as a buffer.
Apparently shooting the fire arrow alerts some phantom guards in the South Staircase. You may get away with not alerting them from the noise of the fire arrow, but you WILL lose the ghost objective when you try to leave, even on mossed ground. Closing the door solved it for me.

Playing Hard mode...have gone around in circles and cannot find door(?) stairway/whatever to get to the upper lvl, so I can get to window that takes me out to get to bldg. via rope arrow, etc. to get to sword location. :(
I played this years ago and seems to me there was a way (door) where I hid to BJ passers by so I could get to window without being seen. I am currently on the second floor looking up and I don't really think I'm supposed to try and rope up am I ??? I really don't remember having to do that! I tried going out window on this floor but cannot get up that way...various problems that won't allow it and I know I didn't get there that way anyhow. I know I did get to the third floor and out that floors window...
I've read through this whole thread..over 2hrs trying to find a lead...but none were to be found. So please help me to get up there! :D Thank you.
