I never managed to get onto the roof, but I didn't try all that hard.
If you started on the most difficult setting, you will see all the mission. You get more out of it if you start on Normal and work your way up, because things get harder and you get to see more of the mansion as you progress.
As for where you are stuck, you need a key to the North Wing and also a key for that chest underwater. If you still haven't found them, then the key to the North Wing should be
Spoiler:
in the Captain's room.

and the water chest key should be
Spoiler:
in the Lord's bedroom. I don't know exactly where, because it was added for the final release, which I haven't had time to play yet.

In case you just can't figure out how to GET to the water chest,
Spoiler:
there is a button (or lever) up on the rafters over the pool.

OK, I'm saying uncle. After much searching, I still can't find the 17th secret in Ghost mode and I bet it's the same one that both Silver Sorrow and Nightwalker didn't find. The ones I've found are

Spoiler:

* 01. Third story floor hatch which is connected to ...* 02. The second story passage with movable armoires at the ends which is also connected to ...* 03. The secret entrance to central courtyard* 04. Ship's wheel that opens the fireplace painting in the lounge near the music room.* 05. The book that opens two secret doors from the smallest library to the adjacent hallway.* 06. Purse in the kitchen fireplace.* 07. Switch that moves the guard captain's bed.* 08. The wall painting space over the bed in one of the women's rooms.* 09. Wall painting space holding the funeral urn (gross) in the lord's bedroom.* 10. Torch that opens the earth talisman hiding place.* 11. Switch that moves the statue over the water talisman tank.* 12. Switch that lifts the cage over the fire talisman.* 13. Grandfather clock switch that open the first door of the vault.* 14. Switch that allows rear access to the hall camera's power control near the North Wing.* 15. Switch in the lord's study that allows access to the Elemental Room.* 16. Chest in North Wing rafters that contains an invisibility potion.

Pretty please, what's the 17th? I hope it's not something I passed a dozen times in the mission but I really hope it's not something totally hidden away in the corner of an obscure rafter.
Oh, and by the way,

Spoiler:
Where the heck did the lord of the manor sneak off to? After pickpocketing him, I followed him from the captain's quarters back to his own bedroom. Much later on my way to the vault, I passed his room; the previously closed door was open and he was gone. I couldn't find him again.

If I read your list right, you did miss the same one I did.
Secret 17 -
Spoiler:
On top of one of the REALLY tall bookcases in the Lord's library in the North Wing, there is a chest. It blends in with the bookcase and is hard to spot.

As for the Lord, I think he
Spoiler:
goes and hangs out in the Captain's room, though I'm not sure about that.

Nightwalker, I played this all weekend end i'm just about to complete the last objective of getting the sword. I found 90% of the secrets and now it just keeps crashing on me. Is there a problem I do not know about.
Thank you

Right on both counts. The missing secret is a fair one, not too obscure, not too obvious. And now the Lord and the Captain are sleeping soundly together in the cage in Angel's Hall. They look like two toddlers in a playpen.

Footpad - I haven't heard of anyone having problems with it crashing at all. Sorry, I don't have a clue what could be causing it. You could try e-mailing RiCh to see what he thinks. It would be a shame to not be able to finish it. The only other thing I could suggest would be starting over with a new download, but I know how long this missions takes to play so I realize this may not be an attractive option.
Anyone else have anything to suggest??

Arrgh! I LOVE this fanmission! I love to poke around and explore places and this has got a lot of that.
But I do have a couple little problems -

Spoiler:
First, I did read the hint on the other page about going to an attic that has a view of the Lord's Study, and finding a scroll that will tell how to unlock the bars in front of the Lord's study, but...um...I can't seem to find that particular attic.
Second, I know I'm overlooking something obvious, but how the heck do you open the gate box that holds the fire element stone?

Thank you!

Spoiler:
You have to go into the library through the door that takes you to the second floor of the Lord's library. Go over to the window and out onto the ledge. Look up and you'll see and overhang from the next building. Rope arrow up to the next ledge. Look up again. Do you see the window up near the roof of the next building? Rope arrow up and jump in there. That's the other attic.

The fire talisman -
Spoiler:
You need to go up onto the 3rd floor of Angel Hall and look around for a bench with a water arrow on it. Look under the bench for a lever.

And what a tremendous honor it is Nightwalker.
I loved this level, it is truely a masterpiece of not only graphic designing, but also story, gameplay and everything else that goes into making a Thief mission the best it can be.
What I really enjoyed about it though was the non-linear feeling the mission gives to the individual, you're not forced to go key hunting here and there, and not forced to be bored with conversation after conversation, he gives you the freedom to do what you want and when, and at the same time, grabs you with a great story and architecture that is right on par and above the original missions.
Very well done Richard!

I tried restarting and I spent half the night playing, as soon as I reached the North Wing it starts to crash again,. It's agood mission, but I have had enough, it's hard enough playing on expert without it crashing. I even reinstalled Thief 2 again and it just keeps crashing. I'm a networker and all computer are diffrent. I do not care if they are the same model. They are unique in their own way computer wise or operating system wise. So it might be my computer no accepting this particular zip file. Anyway thanks Nightwalker.
