There are only 2 speed rats. The other ones are lazy. Rats only hurt on expert, that's true. You'll be rewarded.

not seeing an explicit answer to this yet (though thanks for the hints up to this point, all): I'm in the tombs, sarcophagus in the air room has moved, I went down and up but didn't find anything but some loot and a way out. Did I miss something? I'm on Expert

You missed the the way to the other side in the water. Use a flare, it's also working in the water.

okay, so I went through the Hammerite complex and got the book and skull but I can't find the hammer.
After a few crashes by the pond I somehow managed to lead the adorable tiny giants back into the complex, but I don't know what to do with them now. Besides mayhem :ebil:
By the main room there appears to be a passageway above the stairs down to the basement; is there any way into that?

On expert difficulty the hammer is in the caves. There are little critters around a fire place. Look next to them.
Crashes? Which NewDark version is that? (check the properties-->product version of thef2.exe)

I'm not sure what you mean. You've already been in the basement and found the back door.

if you stand by those stairs and throw a flare up, there are crawlspaces in the ceiling. There is also an unfrobbable door upstairs I thought could somehow lead to them.
Anyway, I got the hammer and got out of there; only ~6600 loot, but I don't want to go back in for more!

This mission was designed for NewDark v1.24. You're playing with an older version. That's why you got crashes.
As for the "crawlspace": There's nothing.

Played this one when it appeared and am having another go now. A very entertaining mission, but I haven't managed to finish it properly on either occasion.
Loads short on loot (expert).
I've managed to destroy, or incapacitate every living being, but still only got 5000-ish loot despite being able to search unmolested.
So I have a few questions:

1. Never found the 'triangular tomb' people have mentioned. Where is this?
2. Benny attacked me for raiding the Mall, so he's asleep now and I guess I can' t do some other objective to do with 'evidence' - which I never found in any case.
3. What, or who is Sprayer?

I think I have struggled because it is just a bit too dark in places and it has become a bit laborious to examine the whole map.
