Some of the textures are old and from Thief 1, some as low as 32x32 pixels.
To be fair, without the EP2, most textures look awful anyway.
You can try it, though it will give you an even harsher contrast between high and low quality textures, as it only replaces ~40% of the textures so far: (

Ahh...you mean that those enhancement packs that are integrated in the Tafferpatcher dont cover all the textures in Thief 2?
Didn't know that, I though those packs (Ntex etc) covered All the textures, so I though it was something wrong with my installment?!
