Wouldn't the guys from the Classic Thief Contest have enough classical Thief feeling afterwards to have a look at them?

Would be very nice to see Thief 2 Gold completed...but it doesn't look like it will be happening anytime soon. I'm truly surprised that the community has allowed this opportunity to slip by for two years now. Is there really no interested in completing Thief 2 Gold?
If circumstances in my personal life were different, I would try to organize a team to work on this myself.
I've mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I would approach a project like this practically, and with respect to the original game. I would use ONLY materials from the original Thief 2. I think the previous attempt was far too broad...attempting to record custom vocals, custom textures...etc. I feel that inserting all those custom materials into a Thief 2 Gold would ruin the illusion that this is a Thief 2 Gold created by LGS. It should be seemless. Keep it simple. Comb through Thief 1 and 2 and find all the unused vocals that could be used...edit any other conversation vocals that might work with some tweaking.
Probably never happen, but those are just my thoughts.

I don't think it's a lack of interest. I think that for many of us there are questions of legitimacy.

I completely agree with New Horizon's approach. Strictly using Thief 2 OM material only is the best and most authentic method. Custom material would simply create a less authentic experience when playing the missions.
Also, I felt a project as important as this which affects the entire community should have been organised in a more democratic way. I understand nicked took the initiative to get a project underway, and for this he should be commended. But I believe such a project was far too ambitious for one person and a few others who offered help. Thief 2 Gold would be a project similar to T2X, on a much smaller scale obviously, and should therefore be organised and approached in a similar fashion. Perhaps asking T2X's development team for advice would be a good start, maybe they would be interested in approaching the project themselves even.

For the slums mission, someone still needs to create axes, including "Ryan's Axe", special textures for his "Axe Room", and five "NecroDaggers", but yeah, nothing custom should be made unless the mission actually calls for it.

I thought there was supposed to be an entire mission based on necromancers?
That would need an entire set of Necromancer models and voices at a minimum.

Yeah, and I wonder if there's a connection between the Necromancers and the NecroDaggers, 'cause if there is, the aesthetic should match. The ritual room where they plan to raise the demon shouldn't evoke Constantine's ritual, or else it should be deliberately related, depending.
I would hope that the Museum mission wouldn't have all the same paintings (and I'd like to see mention of the "Throvian artist Lizotte" or "Durant", heh), and it would be cool if the Museum exhibits followed Mark Lizotte's example of introducing art appreciation to his fellow devs through his choices, but Grundy's not posting here anymore.;)

There are some exceptions...minimal re-skinning of some existing models would be acceptable....and I'm sure there are voice sets that could double for necromancers somehow.
It could be done, and done well...there are enough materials in Thief 2 to do it.

I know that if I heard a female necromancer speaking with a Mechanist voice set, I'd want to scream. The female 'Hammerites' in some FMs are already far beyond bad enough. :eww:

If there turned out not to be acceptable voice sets, then you simply wouldn't make any female necromancers. I think it would also be acceptable to borrow voice sets from Thief 1 Gold, though I know that is supposed to be forbidden...but at this point in history, I highly doubt there would be anyone who would kick up a fuss.
