What I was thinkin' was that we all could kinda get together in the 'real world' and have a Guiness or Kool-aid and play Thief on projection TV...Maybe even some pizza could be brought in!!! :cheeky:
Thrown in some burrick burgers and you've got yourself a deal, my dear!!! :cheeky:

If they want to do it right, they should do a Thief 1 Gold and Thief 2 Gold compilation, that's if they bother to finish the incomplete levels. But that's just my own opinion! Lol. :p
That will never happen I'm afraid. It would mean Eidos forking a lot of money out to rehire ex-Looking Glass employees, who are now all busy doing other things, and get them to finish a bunch of levels which were considered not good enough to make it into the game for release date. Couple that with the fact that the Thief series isn't exactly very commercially successful... I can't see Eidos throwing that kind of money away for the sake of the fans. Hence why we're finishing the levels ourselves.

I opened up College in T3ed
I thought you only could open it with Dromed 2. :weird:

In their current state that's true, but .mis files can be converted to .t3d files, which can then be imported into T3ed. There's a tutorial somewhere in the T3 Editor's Guild that shouldn't be too hard to find, if you're curious. I don't have DromEd installed, so this seemed like the easiest way to take a look at things. You only really get the brushwork, but these missions aren't complete yet anyway so I figure I'm not losing too much in the conversion.

fascinating - I had no idea. Theoretically then, someone could make Thief 1/2 levels in Thief 3 with new graphics. I can't wait for someone even more insane than me to take on this project! :cheeky:

I would love to see that! Imagine playing Cragscleft prison, Bonehoard and the Haunted Cathedral missions in revamped graphics! But there's a problem. What about parts where you need a rope arrow or to swim to areas?
ZylonBane on 9/8/2006 at 13:39
For those parts, whoever was doing the conversion would stop, slap themselves, and ask "What the hell was I thinking?".
Flesh Engine sucks. Dark Engine rules.

It would be impossible even for maps without water areas or need of rope arrow.
TDS engine just can't handle big or complex(even relatively) maps. More precisely, it can, but only
theoretically.

lol, they really would have to be insane by the sounds of it. Still, new versions of old levels would be kinda fun. :cheeky:

I think that the real release of thief 2 gold will be a tongue in cheek final killer death blow to the farce that was thief 3 as a cheeky group of moders recreate thief 2 plus the gold levels in the dark mod doom 3 engine. I would argue there is no need to recreate thief gold or thief 1, but thief 2 deserves some gold treatment... but that is a long time away (and yes I know would require a heck load more effort than just thief 2 gold in the dark engine – but what an advertisement for the dark mod if it was achieved – oh and as I could give a care what eidos think, I would have no qualms about using original thief 2 material and cutscenes… perhaps I would force the use of the original CD during installation or copy the needed files from an existing install of thief 2 - I wonder how true to the file format of thief missions the dark modders are building into there TC – I suppose it would be feasible to implement both dark engine and doom editor styles (at least till the dark mod exe files rearranged all the thief data structures, but that way it would be easier for dromeditors to start working.)...
Umm also I could I start building my doom 3 editor skillz by translating the current maps of thief2 into the doom 3 editor... hmm - I suppose I should ask if the basic level geometery is transferable) .
It would also step on the dark mods toes as their back hairs get raised whenever a copyright infringment is near lol.
I may have got side tracked a little in this post, sorry.
