In my humble opinion the restoration of thief 2 gold must be a task of paramount importance. This is an original game, what could possibly be more important than it? We must lay down all the pieces of a mosaic together of the original story! Instead, people are happy to craft missions on Jupiter.

The current authors are already pretty busy doing things in their little spare time
that push DromEd's limits That's the core of the problem, yes.

Not as much as following a newer and personal vision. I don't think many of the FM community are interested in sticking to the original fundamentals.

Thief, first of all, is a game. And only after that its a base for fms. People have mixed up priorities.

Following one's own vision and ideas instead of trying to replicate (or in this case, second-guess) somebody else's? I wouldn't call that "mixed up" at all.

The games authors' vision would always be preferable for me over any modder's vision. Create anything you want, fine, but let's finish what LGS wanted to do first.
Unfortunately it seems to me that for the current generation of Thief modders out there DromEd and Dark Engine are the tools not to expand the game, but to push the technical limits. It's a communication breakdown, if you know what I mean.

Thing is, we don't know exactly what LGS wanted to do. AFAIK, all we have of the Gold missions are the maps and some vague design notes; based on these resources, each T2G mission could be done in a zillion different ways, and we have no way of knowing which of these, if any, is even close to what LGS would have done if they'd finished the missions.
I don't see how it's possible to "recreate" something that never existed in the first place; the best anyone could come up with would be an
approximation of what the Gold missions
might have been like, and I really don't see how that would be any more original than, say, a FM that reuses one of the OM maps.

There have certainly been some FM's that push the technical limits, but that's hardly the case with all new missions. Besides, I don't see how pushing technical limits and expanding the game are mutually exclusive - unless by "expanding", you're referring strictly to second-guessing LGS' intentions.

True, but it's better than nothing anyway. I would've gladly played Thief 2 with new missions based off the T2G content we have and with original missions tweaked.

Is this where we decide how others have to spend their free time? Because I have some excellent ideas about that... :D

I wouldn't mind seeing the fan community's take on the T2G missions, either, but I would never consider them to be anything other than FM's and wouldn't feel comfortable about lumping them together with the OM's as a "canonical" part of the T2 storyline. It would be like a new author picking up an old book and adding in new chapters based on the original author's notes.
