Thief 2 movie problem... again - by Mebber

I know, this is a common and tiresome problem, but after a week of trying i'm still not able to solve it. I've tried quite a couple of solutions: creating the RegIndeo-batchfile to register the indeo codecs, register them by running regsvr32 "c:\my\path\to\thief\LGVID.AX" (the popup message says the command was successful), using the latest DDfix 1.5.11, installing different codecs (Indeo5 delievered with my Thief 2 CD, Indeo 5.11, the alternate Indeo installer by Schattentänzer, K-Lite).
I run Thief 2 as admin, but i wasn't able to execute the RegIndeo.bat as an admin so far. The "run as admin" option isn't selectable, and i don't know how to run it as admin otherwise. Don't know if it is vital to run the batch file as admin?
But the problem persists. Thief 2 itself runs fine, just the movies won't show up no matter what i do. Windows Media player can't play the .avi files too (but VLC can).
Both Thief 1 and Thief 2 worked well a few months ago, but i had to format and reinstall my system. My hardware configuration is the same since then. I think the last time i solved the problems by simply using re-encoded versions of the movie files, but i can't find a download location anymore, the link in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125250) this thread is dead.
Are there possible solutions i've missed? Otherwise, is there a place where i can still download the re-encoded video files?
thx in advance, Mebber

Since you can't run the movies with Windows Media Player, your codec probably still isn't registered. You might download TafferPatcher and run just the codec registration part of it.
Remote possibility: If you alt-tab out of the game when a move (say the introduction) is supposed to play, is there a new window on your desktop called "avi chunk viewer"? I had a problem with that appearing behind the game and blocking the movies from running. Turned out I had to uninstall Avi2Dvd. Then the movies ran just fine.

TafferPatcher didn't worked too, and there is no program or process like Avi2DVD running in the background. By the way, i couldn't time it right to switch back to the desktop while the intro is supposed to play because there is no delay (well, maybe 0,5 seconds) between starting the program and entering the main menu. The Media Player doesen't play the video but the audio, Thief 2 itself plays neither of them.
I've checked the codecs with Filmerit, the only error i get is about a "LG Video Renderer", the error says "Server File = #Error S02 - No InprocServer32".
I've tried to recode the intro movie myself with SUPER and saved it as a flash video, but that didn't worked either. WMP could play it, but Thief 2 didn't loaded it, just like the original movie file.

I had a similiar problem, movies worked fine for all my LGS games then one day they just stopped working. I found a small obscure little program in the far corner of the internet called Filmerit
(

All my Indeo codecs were listed with errors. Deleted them using this program then re-installed Indeo codec from Thief installation CD. I still have to do a regsvr32 LGVID.AX before I play but that has never changed for me.

"I've checked the codecs with Filmerit, the only error i get is about a "LG Video Renderer", the error says "Server File = #Error S02 - No InprocServer32"."
As i said, i've already checked the codecs with Filmerit, but thanks nonetheless.
By the way, I was able to eliminate said error, and right now i'm using another codec pack called CCCP which seems to be excellent. All players can play the thief movies now -audio and video-, including the media player. Filmerit confirms that the indeo codecs are installed and registered correctly. In the meantime i've even recoded the video files to another codec myself, with no luck. Thief 2 just refuses to play them.
By now i dont think the codecs are the problem anymore. It appears that the program itself simply doesen't start playback... but that's just speculation. Actually i've got no further clue about the problem, so i guess i'll have to give it up.
But thanks for the help anyway!
