Thief 2 doesnt seem to work on my dad's PC, even though his is more modern than mine. They work on mine and on others, so i know it isnt the disk.
It installs fine, game loads up, gets to first level, 5 seconds later, hang. Computer crashes. Hard reboot required.
Ive tried compatability and other tricks, such as minimal installation,
full installation, rebooted a million times, but since it works on other machines, i dont get why it doesnt work on this machine.
Its a Dell (god help us all) Dimension 5100 PIV win XP with basic ram (512) and graphics card.
The only 2 things i could think it is are that the CD drive recently had a disk blow up in it, and this could corrupt the installation somehow.
Any help or advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated. I know he could just play them on a different PC, but when your PC is less than 3 months old and doesnt play games, somethings got to be wrong with the world.

you're apparently new to the forum so i'll spare you the buttcheeks torn asunder bit and point you towards the TECHNICAL FAQ. it's a big red-font sticky at the top of this forum section. more specifically, the bit on hyperthreading.
i'd link it but while it's technically 5:45am i'm still running an hour ahead and therefore i can't be fucked to find the link for you, so you'll have to do all the legwork on this one. good night.

To the OP: No worries. I assure you, this problem's quite common, and quite easy to fix.
As mentioned above, go to (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75031) . Your problem is probably the dual processor one.
When I got Thief II, I spent about 60 minutes altering the settings for my computer, and then fine-tuning the controls to how I like them. Ever since, the game's worked fine.
It shouldn't take you any longer.
