i've installed thief 2 yet everytime i try to play it it comes up with an error something to do with the codecs, i have tried to install the ones on disc2 but it has not fixed the problem. i have been to the web site to get the codecs for winXP but they want $15 or something like that, but seeing as i'm australian i guess that would mean AUS$30, so i just can't be bothered. some help would be great, i'm a huge fan of the games and would like to keep playing them. i'm running on a Pentium M, 512 MB of Ram.

the 1.17 patch fixes some of the stuff, you should get it.

this is the error message "The program you are trying to run requires a current Indeo codec.
To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of Windows, please contact the manufacturer at http://indeo.ligos.com." and has a choice to continue when i press that it has up with one of those Microsoft report error things

A previous thread about this error indicated that the Microsoft support patch available at (
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327979) solves the problem.
If it doesn't, though, then you could also try this free codec package; apparently it solves this sort of problem as well, and also apparently has the advantage of not mysteriously becoming broken again (which the codecs that shipped with Thief tend to do).

great! that fixed it, i had to use the free codec one, cause there about no update with windows that was suitable. thanks!
