I have been trying to play fms for a few weeks now. But even when I reinstall Thief2, after applying Tafferpatcher (217) it won't load. It tries but just crashes to desktop. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my DromEd window had to be resized in User config. For some reason the old one suddenly didn't fit properly on my screen any more.
But if I load up one of my own missions in DromEd and select to go into Game Mode, it works fine.
I've checked all the cfg files for any setting that could be off, checked monolog, tried a bunch of stuff. Guess I need an idea of where to go from here.
Anyone else had this problem?

Where is it installed?
redleaf on 28/10/2016 at 21:19
Hi Tannar!
It is in C:/Thief/T2
I just uninstalled all the Tafferpatcher stuff, and using fmsel, started a mission and got as far as the objectives screen before it crashed. Although the the custom intro screen did not appear - just the old T2 load screen.
Never had any problem with that location before

This has happened to me before - sometimes a clean reinstall does the trick. Also, it's probably best if your Dromed and regular Thief directories are separate.

I have tried several new clean installs, and never mix my DromEd mission-making folders with my Thief gaming folder. I really don't understand what has gone wrong. It did work fine on my laptop for a long time, and suddenly it doesn't. :(

Try installing the game without Dromed. If that works, you're halfway there to solving what may be wrong. I'd bet money there's a broken path causing your problems.

It sounded like a path issue to me too, but out of curiosity, what operating system are you using? If it's Windows 10, you might try running it in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Just in general, it's a good idea to always include your system specs when asking for technical help. You can also look in your T2 folder after it crashes and find crash.dmp and thief2.log. Upload those to a file share site and post the link here. If that's a problem, just email them to me.

as always, if there's a crash, there's also a crash.dmp - posting it (together with thief2.log) would allow us to pinpoint the issue.

By the way, redleaf, does the problem still show up if you play the original game instead of fan missions?
