in such cases I also do suspect the anti-virus.. I know for a fact that Bullguard sees thief.exe as a virus. ( I had a lot of troubles getting (keeping) gloria creeps thief running . had to fix it with the help of bullguard help desk)
and what redleaf discribes is exactly what gloria encountered every time bullguard had an update:rolleyes:

You say your antivirus caused all sorts of fatal problems on your computer, and then you turn around and tell redleaf that her issues could be due to her antivirus program (when you don't even know if she has one). What are you basing that on?
You're not reading what I wrote.
1. My AV program caused me problems.
2. Your problems COULD ALSO BE CAUSED by an AV program.
I don't know if she has an AV proggie or not, but IF SHE DID...

You're right, sorry, I completely read that wrong. Ah, just proves, never drink and post kids.

It's rare to find someone with enough humility to admit error. You have my respect, brother.

But does Brethren have a hangover? Interested readers want to know!
OT, I'm just wondering why people buy antivirus or any other protection or scanner that is easily available free.

That's why marketing pukes get paid so much money. They have to convince people who hate vanilla-flavored ice cream to buy vanilla-flavored ice cream. So people like me, who think they know everything, go out and buy it.

The free anti-virus scanners are often inferior in some regards when compared with the "full" versions. For example, one scanner I know will only scan files on your hard disk when you use the free version. If you buy the full package, the program also scans your e-mails for viruses, and maybe even your downloads.
Whether one needs
anything of that is another question, though. Furthermore, virus scanners are never perfect and will most likely never be, meaning that there are always a few viruses and other malware things which get through. People tend to forget this, especially when they paid for any full version of an anti-virus product.
I use no paid scanners (except for Windows Defender and what else comes with Windows), and only once or twice a year I scan my machines for viruses with free anti-virus programs. Most of the time, they won't find anything except for some programs which also pollute you with ads, but don't do any further damage. I have been able to keep most viruses off my machines by thinking about what I download and what I don't, and where I'll click on and where not. For
me, this kind of protection (together with some backup strategies) is enough. Other people, however, have other preferences.
All right, enough off-topic babbling for now.:p

Dagnabbit! Today it stopped working again. FMsel comes up, but when I ask it to start a mission, nothing happens. I checked paths and compatibility - it's all okay there. No Crash logs are available as it doesn't start, so doesn't crash. There is also no Monolog.
Thief2.log:
: PID: 7908

I am running Windows 10 on an HP Envy laptop
Display adaptors: Intel HD Graphics 5500; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M
Currently only using Windows Defender - no other AV software.
(Nightshifter: Oh, well, another DromEd night - working on the Bathaus mission)
This is really making me nuts.
