Hi
Recently I bought the thief platinum collection and installed/played thief 2 *patched* for the first time.
It seems to me like lots of things are changed... In shipping and receiving for example the button-press sound different and WHAT IS UP with the changes in the Blackwell (musician) area? No safe on top?
Basically my question is this... what are the major gameplay changes for the patched T2? You know... like guard/loot/sound changes and the like.:weird:
I still love playing the game.. but it just seems different. You ever played toejam and earl? Feels like "fixed world."
Why can't I get the spider in shipping and receiving to go insane and run around the level killing things, only to encounter it much later in a random area and nearly crap my pants?
I already searched the forums for this. There were about 500 results for "KEY thief patch changes" and I went through about 250 of them.
HALP!
:p

I've played the original TMA , and then played again with the patch like 3 years ago, and yeah there's some changes i can't recall if theres a big one but i remeber that you have a bonus objective in the Mission where you find Sheriff Trumant killed , theres a tomb where you can bury him  .
That spider in shipping and receiving made me jump of my chair too :tsktsk:

Hehe, yeah I noticed the grave. :)
Almost on soulforge on patched version now.
I found this on the web, too, which seems to list most changes.

I am still mad about the spider in shipping and receiving though. I mean, now even if you provoke him, he wants to return to his little cage area- and guards seem to have little problem in killing the poor thing.
I remember you used to be able to lure him into a pack of guards, and after that he would "go insane" running around and killing things and guards almost never killed him. Naturally you would just chuckle and go about playing the level only to find the beast in some completely random location and be like  !
Oh well... it is for the better I guess...

Do either of you still own, or have access to the unpatched version you had played before? I ask because I'd like to be able to find out if any story elements were taken out. I know some were added with the patch, but I'd be very interested to know what was removed. The only thing I know about is the cultish shrine in the Rumfords' basement being replaced with a gear, so it wouldn't add another religion, but connect it to the growing Mechanist sect.
I swear I read a text that mentioned "Britannia", but I gave up on it long ago. It would've been another Ultima reference.
And thanks for that link! I'm interested. The first time I played Shipping, I let the spider out of the cage and it walked outside, skittered around the bulding, found a guard, fought him while another guard ran up, and it killed them both. I had just chased after it to see what it would do. I've never had that experience since.

I've never played the patched version. I downloaded it but never got around to installing it.

You can do this at least with the ones on Davidson's ship.
Open the crate and let them see you. Then jump onto the crate or somewhere else where they can't reach you. If that's not enough, aim an arrow. They'll jump up and run to call a bowman. Too sad that guards don't understand Spiderish

A silly question about the patch for T2 (which I've never bothered to obtain until now):
How do you install it? I have it downloaded and extracted from zip. Is it simply a matter of clicking the .exe file and then having it install in your existing Thief 2 folder?
